GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Urgent Care Medical Director provides supervision of clinicians and direction over the clinical processes of the Williams, Arizona and Grand Canyon National Park Urgent Care Clinics. This individual will coordinate services in collaboration with Clinical Support Leadership and Operations Leadership. It may require additional collaboration with other clinical Department Leads (e.g. Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Physical Therapy, Behavioral Health, Pharmacy, Dental) as well and Clinic Leads. The responsibilities are 80% Clinical, 20% Administrative.
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
- Lead strategic planning initiatives for the urgent care program in collaboration with organizational leadership.
- Provide leadership and training for urgent care clinical staff to ensure the delivery of cost-effective, high quality urgent care in a limited resource setting.
- Support clinical staff wellness and resiliency initiatives in collaboration with organizational leadership.
- Partner with clinical management to develop evidence based protocols and processes, and promote a culture of patient-centered medical care and continuous quality improvement.
- Foster a team-based approach to patient care through effective relationships with key departments including (but not limited to) nursing, operations, pharmacy, care management, and outreach and standardized interdisciplinary processes.
- Identify and support opportunities for positive change and growth, engaging other team members in the process.
- Coordinate planning of annual Urgent Care Department Conference.
- Contribute to the education of medical trainees from multiple backgrounds (medical students and residents, pharmacy residents, onboarding new graduates) on clinical best practices and standards of care for urgent care practice in resource limited settings.
- Collaborate with external agencies including the Park Service, community of Williams, Williams Hospital District, and Emergency Medical Transport.
- Analyze staffing and resource requirements and make recommendations to the Chief Medical Officer.
- Interface with the Medical Officers and Department Leads regarding department personnel management.
- Assist in selection, recruitment, and retention of competent staff. Actively engage in orientation and training of urgent care providers. Engage in team succession planning and the development of leaders.
- Regular interaction with direct reports, support staff, and regulator as necessary.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
- Must have the ability to take initiative, prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, and to coordinate activities across multiple departments while dependably meeting deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills and ease working with multidisciplinary teams across skill sets and training levels.
- Independence and comfort working in rural settings with limited resources.
- Strong sense of ethics, integrity, and responsibility.
- Experience giving reports and presenting to a Board of Directors or advisory group and formulating and articulating short and long-term goals and strategies preferred.
- Experience with reporting environments, data configuration, business intelligence strategies and reporting strategic initiatives.
- Experience with principles and practices to promote communication and adequate information flow and to support overall management control systems.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Medical degree (MD or DO) and current medical license.
- Board Certification in Family Medicine or Emergency Medicine.
- Experience managing complex emergency care in limited resource setting.
- Urgent Care Medicine Certification teaching experience preferred.
