OVERVIEW: The RHY Specialist is a positive adult role model with reflective listening skills, empathetic to the needs of others, youth and can manage up to 16 residents in a Runaway Homeless Youth Shelter.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Maintain 100% supervision of residents within the daily routine, during recreational activities at the shelter and within the community.
- One-on-one coaching, preparing meals with residents, facilitating recreational and educational outings, and general upkeep of the house itself
- Crisis prevention, resolution and intervention implementation
- Complete intake and assessment(s)
- Documentation of critical information in staff log, case notes and resident files
- Administer and record youth’s medication as prescribed
- Transport youth to recreational activities and other outings via agency vehicle when assigned
- Attend training and supervision sessions quarterly as required by state regulations, totaling 30 hours per year
- Assist with maintenance of shelter facility and grounds
- Maintain a caring and cooperative environment
- Maintain client confidentiality consistent with agency policy
- Attend all required program and agency meetings
- Physical Requirements : daily activities may include bending, lifting as much as 25 lbs, walking up to a mile at one time, and driving a car for several hours at a time
- Possess ability to climb stairs, to pursue children and to participate in, and supervise children’s recreational activities
- May include contact with residents with mental health issues who demonstrate behaviors such as cursing, shouting, running away, self-harm and aggression. Staff is expected to abide by the safety plans for children with risk factors
- Other duties as assigned by Program Supervisor, or requested by Executive Director
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma with a minimum of one year of direct care human services experience working with youth in a community-based setting, in-home, residential treatment facility or MH in-patient based setting is required.

*Must pass a criminal, child abuse, and FBI background check.'
