The Student Nurse (SN) provides a variety of nursing care duties in accordance with the duties, knowledge and skills identified in this functional statement. The SN provides direct care for ambulatory dermatology patients according to established OHSU policies. The SN will attend to needed requirements of the patient and ensure all regulatory and hospital guidelines and practices are followed; providing for a positive care experience within OHSU.
- Documents care given, observations, and responses on appropriate tools or forms. Acts as a scribe for providers when appropriate.
- The SN will obtain a health history, assist intra-operatively and post-operative with procedures done under local anesthesia (I.e. blotting, suture cutting, bandaging)
- Other duties include patient teaching (I.e. going over AVS with patient), wound care management, point of care testing, and dressings.
- Takes vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature), height and weight and records in EPIC according to nursing policies and procedures. Vital signs are recorded and progress notes are completed thoroughly and accurately by the end of the day
- Maintains stock levels of supplies.
- Collects data for assessment/reassessment and unit level performance improvement activities
- Enrolled in or on vacation from or is otherwise registered in a Graduate Program (minimum 4.5 credit hours)
- Completion of at least 1 clinical semester of an RN program
- Basic skin care, vital sign collection, documentation, ability to type at least 45 wpm.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) training is required.
Able to perform duties commonly associated with patient care (lifting at least 50 lbs, bending, and standing for prolonged periods).
