Laborer/Student Worker
As a Laborer/Student Worker crew member, you will be using power equipment and hand tools for removal of fuels to prevent wildfire and to help provide a strategic area to stop, help stop or potentially provide a safe spot for fire fighters during suppression activities by:
  • Working in a wide variety of manual tasks in the areas of fuels reduction, pre-commercial thinning, hand piling, chemical release, site preparation, tree planting, noxious week eradication and cutting small trees and brush using a chain saw and task specific tools.
  • Maintaining tools and equipment.
  • You may perform initial attack actions on fires: hand-line construction, hose lays, applying water to fires, mopping up fires, running portable pumps, setting up fold-a-tanks and fire site rehabilitation.

Minimum Qualifications:
Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
Note:Driver's License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business. If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout. If you have an Oregon driver's license, a record check will be conducted on top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record.
Desired Skills:
  • Basic knowledge and use of various hand tools, chainsaw, hand help power equipment and mobile power equipment such as a chipper.
  • Experience working collaboratively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with others.
  • Highly desirable to have a valid Work Capacity Test at the Arduous Level within the past 12 months. Click here for info about Work Capacity Test.
