The RN - Care Specialist provides excellent clinical support, time management skills, training abilities, and analytical thinking skills to the Nursing Departments.  This position is responsible for promoting and maintaining quality patient care through effective support of activities in all patient care areas during their assigned shift. This position supports department leadership, clinical staff, and hospital ancillary staff when needed. This position interacts with patients, families, medical staff, multidisciplinary team, and all facility staff, and assists in facilitating admissions to and transfers from WHMC.

Our benefit package includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement options (403(b) & 457). Medical insurance begins on day one. Add-on compensation for hourly positions rewards additional training and education.  Differentials apply for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Paid Time Off (PTO) accrual is based on hours worked and encompasses holiday, sick, and vacation time. Full time employees (80 hours per pay period) can accrue 23 8-hour PTO days per year, which increases with longevity. 

 

Position Details


Full Time

72 hours per pay period (two weeks)

Wage range: $39.00 - $68.50 DOE

  • Acts in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Patient Care Workflow

  • Assists in administering and coordinating an effective distribution and utilization of staff and services during each shift based on patient acuity and staff experience, as well as providing support to staff.
  • Assists department leadership in facilitating staffing coverage for oncoming shifts.
  • Rounds on all departments to assess for any needs each shift. 
  • Conducts shift change reports with leadership.
  • Communicates with appropriate department leadership while maintaining the highest level of awareness and responsiveness to patient care workflow.

Subject Matter Expert

  • Participates in meetings and committees as assigned.
  • Provides feedback as requested to the implementation and interpretation of policies, procedures, standards, and regulations for personnel, patients, medical staff and the public.

Safety/Security

  • Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
  • Possesses a familiarity with the hospital environment of care codes including appropriate responses and leads the organization as assigned.
  • Confidently makes announcements using the overhead paging system.
  • Accurately looks up specific products in the SDS on-line system.

Infection Control/Employee Health

  • Utilizes all organization and patient care infection control policies and standards.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of standard precautions and aseptic techniques.
  • Locates, distributes, and utilizes personal protective equipment as applicable.
  • Follows infection control plan, cooperates with required testing.
  • Reports exposures promptly and seeks assistance for care/follow-up. 

Patient Care

  • Facilitates and/or performs the duties of the second RN during Labor and Deliveries in the Family Birth Center, as necessary.
  • Performs direct patient care within scope of RN practice act and according to organization policies and procedures, when needed, in the Nursing Departments.
  • Identifies educational needs, implements, and evaluates learning, and documents patient / family education for all educational needs.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of errors.
  • Demonstrates knowledge level necessary to assess patient's psychosocial, educational, and physical needs, and the knowledge and skill to address these needs in an age-appropriate manner for all age groups.
  • Responds quickly and appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques and documents competency.

 

Required Qualifications


 

  • Active RN licensure in the state of Washington.
  • Minimum 5 years inpatient nursing experience.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certified through the AHA within thirty days of hire and maintained while employed.
  • TNCC certified through ENA within 6 months.
  • NRP certification within 6 months.
  • Experience using Electronic Health Care Record for patient documentation and Provider EMR support.

 

Preferred Qualifications


 

  • BSN Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Prior leadership or charge nurse experience.
  • ICU or Emergency nursing background or Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification.
