Summary of Functions
The Risk Manager is responsible for designing and implementing a Risk Management Program for the organization, which includes an analysis of the financial and safety impact on the organization when risks occur. The Risk Manager will manage and identify risk exposure for the Kalispel Tribe's businesses by working with tribal businesses and individual departments to identify risk, design controls, create testing plans and generate management reporting. The Risk Manager is also responsible for ensuring non-tribally owned businesses are following established regulatory standards by developing and completing regular compliance checks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
• Ensures compliance with the Kalispel Tribe of Indians (KTI) and Kalispel Tribal Economic Authority (KTEA) internal controls, State of Washington Gaming Compact, Internal Controls, NIGC Regulations.
• Adhere to all Tribal and applicable local, state, and federal safety and risk codes and regulations.
• Develop and implement Tribal risk and safety regulations, policies and procedures to protect the assets of KTI and KTEA and ensure the safety of all employees and guests.
• Work with KTI and KTEA leadership teams to assist with the implementation and monitoring of applicable OSHA, WISHA, and EPA requirements.
• Build risk awareness amongst employees of tribal business by providing support and training within the company by coordinating with learning and development departments.
• Coordinates with property insurance carrier to ensure NFPA compliance and implement loss prevention measures.
• Works closely with Risk Management Specialist to monitor accidents and safety issues on all Kalispel Tribal properties.
• Conduct policy and compliance audits and inspections, which include working with internal and external auditors.
• Annual review of written programs as required by OSHA, WISHA, and KTI regulations/standards.
• Ensure pool, spa, and aquatic feature inspections are completed following the CDC Model Aquatic Health Code.
• Oversee the coordination and facilitation of safety committee meetings at each Kalispel Tribal properties as required by OSHA, WISHA, and KTI regulations/standards.
• Support KTI Risk and Safety Programs and Safety Committee upon request and as needed.
• Provide regular, no less than quarterly, Risk and Safety reports to the Tribal Administration, NQRC, and KTEA.
• Work with department leadership teams to ensure structures and equipment are compliant with the International Building Code, Consumer Product Safety Commission, American National Standards Institute, and Americans with Disabilities Act (public accommodations).
• Work with department leadership teams to ensure compliance with FDA Food Code and Spokane Regional Health District food safety standards.
• Advise the NQRC Crises Management Committee for risk compliance, incident/emergency management, and contingency planning.
• Manage the claims process for worker's protection, liability, and property claims.
• Assists the Executive Director of Human Resources in developing budget for risk department.
• Knowledge of a 24-hour, 7 day a week operation of tribal businesses and available and willing to work any changes in hours deemed necessary for business needs.
• Responsible for maintaining a consistent, regular good attendance record.
• May be required to be a panelist for the Internal Review Hearings.
• Exercises fiscal responsibility and maintains accurate and complete records of Tribal asset expenditures and business-related expenses, incurred during travel, company programs, and events. Responsible for preparing expense reports in a timely manner.
• Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training team members; planning and assigning work; appraising, rewarding and disciplining performance; and addressing complaints and resolving problems with direct reports.
• May be required to be a panelist for the Internal Review Board.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position will directly supervise 2+ team members
Qualifications
• A Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience is required.
• 5 years of experience in a management position, 3 years of which must have been with midsize to large size cooperation.
• 7 years of direct experience in risk management, safety, and insurance for a 500+ company.
• 5 years of experience in Workers' Protection, Liability and Property claims preferred.
• Demonstrate knowledge of implementing OSHA and WISHA compliance programs.
• OSHA 30 certification preferred. Must receive certification within 6 months of hire.
• OSHA #511 course completion within the past 5 years preferred. Must complete course within 6 months of hire.
• OSHA #501 Trainer certification preferred. Must complete within 6 months of hire.
• Certified Safety Professional certification preferred. Must receive within 1 year of hire.
• Occupational Health and Safety Technician certification preferred. Must complete within 1 year of hire.
Skills
• Proficient in Microsoft programs and other computer software.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and through written documentation.
• Ability to generate reports and communicate their meaning to all levels of management.
• Ability to analyze and solve complex problems having non-standard solutions.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of the organization and outside agency and business contacts.
• Skill in solving practical problems and dealing with situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are required.
• Skill in identifying and resolving administrative problems under pressure conditions.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with Tribal and KTEA officials, staff, industry professionals and the general public.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyzes, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write and analyze reports, draft business correspondence, and create procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, guests, and the general public.
Certificates, Licenses, Regulations
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Kalispel Tribal Work Permit.
• Valid Driver's License and insurability (Must be in possession while operating a Tribal Vehicle).

Travel Requirements
Local travel may frequently be required. Travel outside of the state is infrequently required. Typical travel time is generally less than a week.
