Position Description
Tacoma Power's Rates, Planning and Analysis division is looking for an Energy Risk Management Intern to join their team this Summer 2024!
The Intern will get the opportunity to apply their skills and gain valuable experience working with the Energy Risk Management (ERM) team to support a variety of credit risk related projects, including database enhancements and process automation. There will be additional opportunities to shadow other functions within Energy Risk Management as well as participate in projects supporting industry research and analysis. The ERM team works closely and collaboratively with Tacoma Power's wholesale trading function, affording the Intern broad exposure to wholesale energy trading and Risk Management mechanics.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Support the design, maintenance, and development, of an enhanced credit Risk Management database
  • Assist in the development of credit exposure reporting automation
  • Collaborate with the Credit Analyst on industry research projects
The expected duration of the internship 40 hours per week for approx. 12 weeks in Summer of 2024.
Qualifications
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
Enrolled in vocational school, community college, four-year college or university, graduate student or a recent graduate who has completed a degree from an accredited college/university within the last year.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to use software such as the Microsoft 365 Suite of programs
  • Effective communication and listening skills.
  • Effective at problem solving & research.
Desired Skills:
  • Excellent oral, written, & visual communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Python and/or R

Other Employment Information
Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.
Salary Increases: Based on satisfactory job performance, the City provides for a regular progression of salary increases for most classifications according to the salary schedule.
Union Affiliation: Many job classifications are covered by union security provisions which require union membership, dues, or payment of equivalent service fees.
