PrincipalDuties and Responsibilities
- Performs telephone screening, intake and assessments, advocacy, and referrals for program participants.
- Work as part of a team to ensure 24hour program coverage.
- Complete weekly one on one support meetings, monthly case review meetings, and quarterly service plans.
- Provides crisis intervention and supportive listening to program participants.
- Using the trauma informed empowerment model, works with survivors to create a plan for safety and independence that includes, but is not limited to, referrals to Casa Myrna services, community services, and referrals for children to community-based resources.
- Assists parent survivors with the development of healthy parenting skills.
- Maintains the structure and policies of the program to ensure safety and security, and reports problems. Shares in weekly staff chores (including but not limited to cleaning common areas, staff office, staff bathroom).
- Keeps accurate and complete records of all services and activities as required, including but not limited to data entry into the Casa Myrna database, weekly progress notes, maintains complete and current participant files.
- Facilitates groups (i.e. parenting, house meeting) and attends weekly case review meetings as needed.
- Coordinates with program participants the daily maintenance and cleaning of the shelter.
- Helps maintain a welcoming home environment for participants, including preparing rooms for new program participants and ensuring the overall safety and organization of the program.
- Plans and executes activities and events for program participants
- Attends monthly staff agency meetings, weekly program meetings, and individual supervision.
- Demonstrates professionalism through interactions and communications with participants, colleagues and external collaborators.
- Works as a team player with other Program staff throughout the agency and the Program Coordinator.
- Accompanies program participants to appointments as needed (i.e. state agency offices, court, supermarket, other community locations).
- Attends professional development trainings both within Casa Myrna and in the community.
- Provides age appropriate childcare and play-time activities as needed.
- Adheres to Casa Myrna’s policies and procedures while performing day-to-day activities to ensure successful operation within the department and agency.
- Other related duties as assigned by supervisor and agency.
Qualifications and Requirements
· Committed to Casa Myrna’s values and mission of ending domestic and dating violence and commercial exploitation, and promoting social justice and social change.
· Demonstrated experience working with survivors of domestic/dating violence, trauma and abuse, and with marginalized communities, particularly communities of color.
· Minimum of 2 years’ demonstrated experience working in counseling or advocacy work, preferably in a Residential Program
· Familiarity with Boston-area community agencies and resources, particularly those serving youth, homeless and/or low-income populations.
· Demonstrated ability to utilize appropriate, non-judgmental communication techniques when responding to survivors that illustrates sensitivity to their experiences and needs. Ability to work and advocate in a collaborative style with diverse ethnic, cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic groups, as well as diversity based on ability/disability, sexual orientation and religion.
· Ability to prioritize and coordinate work at multiple sites; ability to work independently and in a team.
· Excellent interpersonal, communication, crisis management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
· Promote an atmosphere of respect and cooperation; maintain confidentiality regarding program participants.
· Ability to travel throughout Boston required; access to reliable transportation preferred.
· Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and/or weekends as needed.
· Strong preference for candidates who identify as a member of a marginalized community as Casa Myrna works to be an inclusive and equitable organization.
· Fluency in a language other than English strongly preferred. Preference for Spanish, Portuguese, Cape Verdean Creole, or Haitian Creole.
Salary range: $47,000-$52,000
Location: Boston
Hours: full-time (4 days and 35 hours/week)
