The Northwest Regional Re-Entry Center (NWRRC) is a great organization to get started in the social services, Mental Health and criminal justice fields, and also a great place to continue your career. NWRRC is a non-profit organization which has been around since 1964. We operate a 150-plus bed residential re-entry center and provide transitional services to offenders re-entering society from incarceration, for probation clients serving sanctions for violations of their supervised release, and for those under Community Restoration orders.

We are hiring for a Resident Support Specialist and are looking for someone with a passion for this field of work. NWRRC is contracted with several agencies to provide restoration services for defendants in criminal cases with Mental Health disorders who have been deemed by the court "unfit to proceed" in their defense. The purpose of this contract is to develop additional housing and services for restoration services both to provide "step down" services for individuals who no longer require hospital level of care and as an alternate to initial placement for Individuals needing competency restoration services.

The population served under this program includes adults who have serious mental illness (SMI) and who often have not yet established/reestablished the ability to fully aid and assist in their legal defense because of their psychiatric conditions. Common psychiatric conditions include; schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, major depression and psychotic disorders not otherwise specified (NOS). Individuals may also have a high prevalence of co-occurring substance use disorders.

As an overview, this role provides support to our resident population and also plans, designs, and carries out engaging activities, programs, events and life skills. Support may include rule teaching and compliance and encouraging activities of daily living (cleaning, bathing, medication, positive and pro-social behaviors, etc.).

Sample of duties:

  • Motive and encourage residents with severe and persistent mental illnesses
  • Provide one on one support to assist residents in complying with community treatment orders and facility rules and procedures
  • Provide legal skills training to residents

Schedule: Our facility operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Resident Support Specialist position is shift work and the shifts cover all 24 hours in a day, 7 days a week. Our schedules are designed to be consistent and may occasionally require overtime. Schedules are five 8-hour shifts, 40 hours a week.

Compensation: Here is our compensation structure:

  • Resident Support Specialist I (entry-level in this field of work): Pay starts at $25.86 hourly.
  • Resident Support Specialist II (experienced in this field of work, at least 2 years): pay starts at $27.61 hourly.

  • Time off: Staff receive 18 days of PTO and vacation annually (that's 3.6 weeks!), half front-loaded and half accrued. Staff also accrue 12 days of sick time annually. We also provide paid time off for bereavement and jury duty.
  • Healthcare: We pay 100% of the medical, vision and dental premiums for our staff. That's a value of up to $673 monthly. Insurance begins the first of the month following date of hire.
  • Retirement: We have an employer-funded SEP-IRA retirement plan. You are eligible after 1 year and we will contribute 7% on a quarterly basis.
  • Tuition assistance: After 6 months, we will pay up to 50% of your tuition cost for a degree or certificate in a related field of study.
  • Fitness: We will pay you up to $50 monthly for exercising/going to the gym.

Background check: All of our staff must pass our background investigation process. This positive requires a valid Driver's License and a driving record in good standing.
