Petaluma Health Center is recruiting for a Residency Program Clinical Director to join our award winning team!

Summary:

The Residency Program Clinical Director will lead the clinical areas of the NP/PA Residency Program, leading and supervising other faculty in precepting and teaching Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant Residents, coordinating curricular evaluation and development, and supporting integration of the program into Petaluma Health Center’s mission and goals.  The Program Director ideally would also serve as Team Director of the residency team, conditional on appropriate experience to assume that position. As a clinician, they will provide quality primary medical care in a collaborative, compassionate, and caring environment. They will work as an integral part of the medical staff by participating in all strategic initiatives of Petaluma Health Center. Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to after-hours call, weekend clinics, and assignment to outside locations within PHC federal scope.

Areas of Responsibility:

Residency:

  • Develop, implement, coordinate, integrate, and evaluate the clinical work of the Residency Program to assure attainment of program goals 
  • Provide direct clinical teaching in both didactic and clinical settings 
  • Plan didactic schedule and coordinate speakers’ schedules 
  • Lead team designing program guidelines, didactics, and residents’ schedules 
  • Assist residents in achieving learning objectives in all desired areas of care and with a deep understanding of PHC’s mission and culture 
  • Supervise precepting, including providing training, observation, evaluation, and feedback for preceptors 
  • Assist in establishing and coordinating clinical rotations, both within PHC and with outside agencies 
  • Collaborate with administrative director on regular evaluation of resident progress and performance, including for post-residency employment 
  • Collaborate with operations and clinic administrators to ensure residents meet goals for number of patient visits completed during the twelve month program 
  • Collaborate with operations and team manager to integrate residents into existing services and ensure that residents are part of the PHC clinic culture 
  • Manage relationship with collaborating academic institutions 
  • Collaborate with administrative director on non-clinical areas of program such as budget, grants, and accreditation as needed 

Clinical:

  • Manage a panel of assigned primary care patients as designated for clinical FTE 
  • Take appropriate history and physical examination of patients for a scope of patients is defined by level of certification 
  • Order pertinent diagnostics and implement appropriate therapy according to scope of practice guidelines 
  • Obtain supervising physician's consultation when problems presented are outside scope of practice or when unfamiliar with a particular aspect of the patient's care according to the PA/NP Standardized Procedures 
  • Communicate effectively with the patients while involved with their health care, including providing appropriate patient education while answering questions and in history taking 
  • Demonstrate competent knowledge in delivering health care to patients through the peer review processes including chart review, by interactions with physician preceptors and by working collaboratively with support staff and all staff of PHC 
  • Become an integral part of the clinical staff through participation in Medical Staff meetings, PA/NP meetings, and other committees of PHC 
  • Responsible for maintaining credentials by keeping all required licenses current, including but not limited to California Medical License, DEA licenses, CME hours, CPR Certifications and any other required licenses.  It is the responsibility of the nurse practitioner to give Human Resources current credentials before old credentials expire 
  • Willingly perform other duties within the scope of practice as assigned 
  • Support and contribute positively to clinic efforts to maintain and improve patient satisfaction in all aspects of health delivery 
  • Work at maximum potential to meet productivity requirements in order to improve patient access and fiscal viability while maintaining quality medical care 
  • Meet all time commitments by arriving on time to the clinic and working entire shift or more as needed to manage assigned patient panel 
  • Responsible for maintaining credentials by keeping all required licenses current, including but not limited to California Medical License, DEA licenses, CME hours, CPR Certifications and any other required licenses.  It is the responsibility of the nurse practitioner/physician assistant to give Human Resources current credentials before old credentials expire 
  • Willingly perform other duties within the scope of practice as assigned 

Manager Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Administrative Director, Medical Director Primary Care, CMO, and Leadership team in strategic planning for the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Residency 
  • Utilize operational and clinical audit results to lead team in initiatives of clinical systems improvements, health information technology innovations, and new methods of care delivery
  • Responsible to meet with residency faculty in their performance reviews and the quarterly and yearly incentive reviews
  • Attend clinical director meetings as needed, as well as other management or quality meetings as assigned by Medical Director 

Education/Experience:

  • Graduate from an accredited NP or PA school  
  • Current California License and DEA  
  • Minimum of five years’ experience providing primary care in a family practice setting in good standing 
  • Previous teaching experience and/or strong interest in teaching
  • Faculty development fellowship or similar training highly desirable 
  • Experience working in an FQHC or in community medicine highly desirable 

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care
  • Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements
  • Knowledge of quality, safety, and/or infection control standards
  • Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment
  • Familiarity with educational evaluation software


Licenses and Certifications:

  • Current California license as an FNP
  • Federal DEA Registration
  • Must maintain CME as required for certification renewals
  • Must be CPR/ BLS Certified
  • Candidate must be able to successfully meet PHC’s credentialing and privileging requirements


Language Skills:
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions and requests from patients, co-workers, and others as necessary. Bilingual in English and Spanish, both written and verbal preferred.

Salary Scale: $120,000 to $173,806 per year  
The compensation amounts listed above do not include relocation assistance, sign-on bonus, productivity or quality/service incentives, call pay, extra shift incentives, if applicable to the position.
