Job Summary
The Rural Teacher Residency Program is a partnership between Fresno County Superintendent of Schools (FCSS) and Fresno State's Kremen School of Education. Residents complete their clinical practice in collaboration with a mentor teacher within one of the four rural districts in our consortium (Firebaugh-Las Deltas USD, Kerman USD, Mendota USD, and Golden Plains USD). Courses are held in Kerman and online.
The one-year (two-semester) model provides an opportunity for the rural residents to earn a preliminary Multiple Subject Credential with a culturally sustaining mindset for the communities they serve, and the option of a Bilingual Authorization Certificate in Spanish to be day-one ready to work in dual language immersion programs. The program's goal is to recruit, retain, and support a teacher workforce that reflects the community demographics in those respective geographic areas within Fresno County and support them by providing equity-driven professional development and mentor teachers.
Requirements / Qualifications
The Rural Teacher Residency Program is recruiting a cohort of teacher residents for the 24-25 school year. This is an innovative and affordable pathway to a full-time teaching career in our rural communities. Residents earn their preliminary Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with the option to also earn a Bilingual Authorization in Spanish in just 2-semesters through Fresno State's Kremen School of Education, while joining a supportive, mentor-based program with an emphasis on trauma-informed practices and equity. Districts do not hire teacher residents in the role of teacher resident. Teacher residents can be hired by districts in other roles when they are teacher residents (e.g. substitute teacher, paraprofessional). Admission to the Rural Teacher Residency Program is managed by Fresno State in partnership with Fresno County Superintendent of Schools and our rural district partners. After the year of residency, graduates receive priority hiring within Firebaugh-Las Deltas USD, Kerman USD, Mendota USD, and Golden Plains USD.

TUITION - Residents pay tuition to Fresno State (financial aid is available for those who qualify)
BENEFITS - Earn a Preliminary Teaching Credential in one year; $35,000 stipend (Residents will not be considered employees of a school district but will be members of the Rural Teacher Residency Program); $20,000 in State Grants for eligible candidates; Scholarships are available; Small cohort size of 20-25; Wrap-around supports (experienced mentor teachers, university coaches, Professor-in-Residence); Technology device provided; Professional Learning opportunities; Hybrid coursework model with courses held in Kerman and online; Opportunity to sub; Priority hiring for a full-time position within consortium
