In this vital role you will lead cross-functional teams in internal project and external relationship management for a variety of initiatives across academia and industry. The role is a part of the Portfolio Strategy and Execution group within Amgen’s R&D Strategy and Operations (RDSO) organization. Remote work will be considered for the right candidates.
The Senior Manager will support the overarching goals of augmenting Amgen’s access to external innovation & knowledge and strengthening Amgen’s scientific reputation. Day-to-day responsibilities will reside largely in two areas:
Acting as a project manager for multiple external Research collaborations, in addition to some alliance management responsibilities, to enable successful execution and value capture; and serving as program manager for Amgen’s corporate Scientific Advisory Boards to enable critical external feedback on early pipeline programs. Work will span across multiple therapeutic areas. Close partnership is expected with Amgen’s Business Development and Alliance Management groups, Research leadership and scientists, legal and finance teams, external collaborators and experts, and additional groups across the enterprise. The ideal candidate will need to be adept at clearly and proactively communicating to ensure proper cross-functional focus on issues, implications, and recommendations.
Successful individuals will have opportunities to grow within the role, the broader R&D Strategy and Operations organization, and Amgen as an enterprise.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Ensure timely design, execution, and in-person support (locations move around the US) of 3-4 Scientific Advisory Boards a year
Serve as an integrator between multiple Amgen functions and external stakeholders in academia and industry
Coordinate, facilitate, and motivate project stakeholders to gain alignment on goals and deliverables
Manage projects within established scope, schedule, and budget, aligning tactics with strategy and managing change and conflict in a matrix environment
Support RDSO leadership to continuously assess what scope of collaborations to support and how best to do so
Basic Qualifications
Doctorate degree and 2 years of experience OR Master’s degree and 4 years of experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of experience OR Associate’s degree and 10 years of experience OR High school diploma / GED and 12 years of experience
Preferred Qualifications:
5+ years Medical Affairs experience in the biopharmaceutical industry (biotech, pharmaceutical or CRO)
Advanced life science degree or equivalent experience (i.e., strong scientific acumen)
Drug Development knowledge with basic to strong understanding of activities within Research, Clinical Development, and Medical or demonstrated experience supporting research partnership activities
Strong competencies in planning, Project Management, and organization with the ability to lead multiple activities in parallel while maintaining a focus on quality and timelines
Demonstrated ability to grasp knowledge of multiple disciplines and to learn new fields quickly
Excellent problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to structure vaguely defined problems and implement practical solutions
Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to influence different styles without authority
Strong written and oral communication skills and executive presence across functions and across different levels of leadership
Independent, motivated, flexible, and resourceful to navigate a matrix environment
Understanding of intellectual property
