About the Research Intern Role:
Sands Capital is seeking a motivated, graduate-level Research Intern who will focus on investments in Life Sciences/Healthcare, with emphasis on therapeutics businesses in the private markets. As a Research Intern, you will have the opportunity to help conduct research on new and existing investment opportunities across both developed and emerging markets.
Our internship program serves to identify motivated and talented Graduate Students who will gain relevant skills and knowledge through the internship. The internship program will begin on June 3, 2024 and end on August 9, 2024. This role is expected to work from our Arlington, VA office on a hybrid schedule at a minimum of two days per week in office or as directed by your manager, depending on team needs. Please know that the hybrid schedule is subject to change, as directed by our Executive Management Team, at any time.
Position Responsibilities:
Coordinate research activities with your managing analyst, including but not limited to:
  • Conducting discrete research projects to analyze company or market fundamentals (i.e., business models, growth drivers, market size, competitive advantage, industry trends, key competitors/risks, financial strength, and fit with Sands Capital's six investment criteria);
  • Completing research on current holdings (i.e., earnings notes, model updates, expert calls, company or analyst meetings, news updates, etc.;
  • Building company-focused financial models and projections;
  • Performing other administrative or professional responsibilities, as needed; and
  • Exhibiting behaviors consistent with Sands Capital's Mission, Values, and culture.

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Graduate students working towards a M.S., M.D., Ph.D. degree in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Science, Finance, Economics, or other relevant major (M.D. or Ph.D. preferred);
  • A genuine and demonstrable interest in business analysis and investment research; specific aptitude for molecular biology, biotechnology, chemistry, and/or statistics;
  • Superior modeling/Excel skills;
  • Familiarity with basic and intermediate accounting;
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills; and
  • Exceptional work ethic and ability to complete assignments on time with limited supervision.
