This is a 2-year position (January 2024-December 2025) for a grant-funded research project being conducted by researchers at Eastern Virginia Medical School’s (EVMS) Department of Pediatrics and Norfolk State University’s (NSU) Department of Health, Physical Education, and Exercise Science.
The project focuses on developing a trauma-informed, community-engaged physical activity intervention for youth experiencing body weight stigma and is funded by the EVMS-NSU Research and Training Incubator for Collaboration in Health equity (ENRICHe). During the 2-year project, the research team will be engaging youth in the community to conduct interviews and create a teen advisory council to inform the development of the intervention. The team will also conduct focus groups with parents and other relevant adults to further inform intervention development.
- Attend and help lead youth leadership team council meetings
- Support participant recruitment efforts (for interviews and focus groups)
- Qualitative data input/entry (cleaning and coding Zoom interview transcripts) using NVivo data management software (prior experience with NVivo not required)
- Background literature review searches
- Other light administrative duties, as assigned
Minimum of one (1) year of college coursework. Must be a currently enrolled student of EVMS. Must be CITI trained or be willing to become CITI trained. Interest in childhood obesity, weight stigma, or physical activity is desired.
