Overview
Transfer Virginia is a state-level initiative focused on providing transparency and access for two- to four-year transfer students. This is a diversified initiative that touches on all aspects of the educational pipeline that requires continuous review of policy, institutional practices, and research to ensure success of this initiative. We are seeking a junior or senior year college student enrolled or interested in government relations, public administration, or public policy and is a Virginia resident and/or attending a Virginia higher education institution. The decision whether the position will be fully remote or a hybrid combination of remote and in-person work will be made in collaboration with the selected intern.
About the Position
The intern will take their skills learned in the classroom to assist Transfer Virginia Team staff. You will learn how to conduct research, analyze policy, and we will expose you to the implementation of Transfer Virginia policies and best practices in the areas of areas of transfer, dual enrollment, and analysis of college enrollment trends.
Duties
With assistance/guidance from the Transfer Virginia Team staff, the intern will:
• Analyze the progress of Transfer Virginia using establish metrics.
• Conduct Research and analyze data on student transfer.
• Work with the Transfer Virginia team to develop and implement a survey for college
advisors to assess application of Transfer Virginia initiatives in practice.
• Facilitate an outreach plan for high school counselors on Transfer Virginia and its
application to dual enrollment.
• Assist the Transfer Virginia Team with administrative duties.
• Review Transfer Virginia materials and provide feedback from a student perspective.
• As available, participate in SCHEV staff activities such as monthly SCHEV Talks, staff
meetings, and other office events.
Minimum Qualifications
• Junior or Senior year college student enrolled in a program or interested in government
relations, public administration, or public policy and is enrolled at a Virginia higher
education institution.
• Excellent written communication and strong editing skills.
• Excellent computer skills
• Shows initiative and an eagerness to learn new tasks.
• Strong analytical skills and experience conducting research is a plus.

Special Requirements
The expected time commitment is 10 to 20 hours per week from November 2023 to June 2024, with at least half the hours occurring between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays. The Commonwealth of Virginia limits wage workers to a maximum of 1500 working hours in a 12-month period from May 1 to April 30. The number of hours per week, days of the week, start and end dates and whether the position is fully remote or hybrid remote/in-person will be negotiated with the selected intern prior to start. No benefits are associated with this wage position.
SCHEV offices are located in Richmond, VA, but the selected intern will negotiate whether the position is fully remote or hybrid remote/in-person.
