Form of workDescriptionLeidos is seeking a motivated intern to support research in the area of Natural Language Processing (NLP). The position will be based out of our Arlington, VA office, which is within walking distance of the Ballston Metro stop. However, this position is available as remote work or onsite.This candidate will develop and implement novel NLP research ideas in support of a mix of internal customer-sponsored projects.
The candidate will also work intensely to develop, evaluate, and curate data sets composed of Natural Language text to support the research projects. The candidate will work in concert with a team of research scientists, data scientists, and engineers supports both research and development projects. The work will include integrating machine learning libraries such as Hugging Face Transformers, spaCy, and pytorch to integrate and adapt ML models with Natural Language text data.
The candidate must be intellectually adaptive, inquisitive, communicative, a self-starter and problem-solver, and self-managed when necessary. The intern will also perform statistically analysis of the research to include visual and graphical presentation of results for decision-makers.Primary Responsibilities* At the direction of the project lead, develop and implement novel NLP research ideas; integrate NLP algorithms and analytics with data; adapt, extend the algorithms and analytics.* Identify state-of-the-art principles and theories that are relevant to Leidos research efforts* Systematic collection, interpretation, and evaluation of data* Direct quantitative data analysis including developing analysis and visualization of various datasets* Contributing to scientific literature and conferences* Configure and program prototypes Jupyter notebooks with ML solutions.Basic Qualifications* Pursuing Master's Degree or PhD in Computational Linguistics, Linguistics, Computer Science, or other related fields* Familiar with at least one programming language like Python, Java, C/C++.* Hands-on experience with at least one of the following common NLP libraries CoreNLP, NLTK, OpenNLP, Hugging Face Transformers, scikit-learn, Keras, TensorFlow, or PyTorch* U.S. Citizenship required* Practical experience with statistical analysis* Intermediate software development skills including developing and maintaining code bases* Experience or educational courses/projects in Machine Learning, and/or Text AnalyticsPreferred Qualifications* Hands-on experience with NLP research and publications* Hands-on experience with prototype development involving SOTA NLP techniques* Hands-on experience with intelligent systems and machine learning* Hands-on experience with presenting research to stakeholders* Eligible to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance* Conversant in the interpretability of deep learning models* Experience with text mining tools and techniques* Experience applying NLP to non-traditional domains* Hands-on experience with solutioning, planning, and executing research* Experience using git, jupyter notebooks, vs code or other IDEs and version control systemsPay Range:Pay Range $53,300.00 - $96,350.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
