Job Description

Company Description

The Bosch Group operates in most countries in the world. With over 400,000 associates, a career at Bosch offers a chance to grow an exceptional career in an environment that values diversity, initiative, and a drive for results. If you are interested in working on the cutting-edge of technology, working at Bosch Research is the place for you!

We are committed to quality at Bosch. Our environment celebrates diversity and promotes career progression. We seek highly skilled, creative, results-oriented people who can look at technology from a new perspective and provide surprising insight. We are looking for candidates who want to shape and drive innovation at Bosch.

Job Description

The Research Engineer will develop and apply atomistic and mesoscale computational tools to Materials Science topics including the simulation of  functional material properties in electrochemical systems such as fuel cells and electrolyzers as well as other Bosch applications such as sensors, polymer components, semiconductor devices, and magnets. This work will enable mechanistic understanding of materials down to the atomistic level, rapid material screening, identification of degradation mechanisms and mitigation strategies, and quantitative analysis of process kinetics in different materials systems. Particular emphasis is placed on coupling atomistic-level insights with mesoscale and continuum-level models. The Research Engineer may need to perform quantum chemistry, DFT, and molecular dynamics simulation of organic materials (polymers and molecules), inorganic materials (alloys, semiconductors, oxides, etc), and/or their combination.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Research in computational material science studying a wide variety of materials for electrochemical, sensor, semiconductor devices, and coating materials
  • Atomistic method and tool development and quantitative property prediction for existing or hypothetical materials, aiming to achieving integration with multiscale and multiphysics simulation chains
  • Screen materials for further experimentation, and interpret simulations to provide concrete takeaways for product development
  • Collaboration with experimentalist and modeling partners worldwide within Bosch and with university partners

A cover letter highlighting your fit to this role is highly encouraged.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Direct experience with atomistic simulation tools in high performance computing clusters
  • Direct experience with, and deep understanding of, quantum chemistry, DFT, and/or molecular dynamics

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise communicating complex atomistic, chemical, and physics concepts to a technical but nonspecialist audience
  • Proficiency for quickly learning new skills or fields of study
  • Experience and record of innovation in the atomistic space, including identification of new use cases for atomistic simulation in products and translating scientific research to commercial technologies
  • Experience in one or more of the following is highly desired and should be described in a strong cover letter:
    • science-driven machine learning for materials
    • simulated chemical degradation or other kinetic processes
    • validated electrochemical property prediction from ab-initio data
    • electronic transport in organometallic systems
    • multiscale and multiphysics simulation chains
    • quantitative pipelines between atomistic simulation, nano- or microstructure models and experiments
  • Experience with software development and databases is desired, especially fluency in python
