Job Description
Senior Research and Development Engineer
OMG Inc. is a leading manufacturer of fastening products and technologies for the commercial roofing and construction industries worldwide. Headquartered in western Massachusetts, OMG is an equal opportunity employer prioritizing the safety of our employees and customers. The company values integrity, teamwork, diversity, trust, respect, commitment, and a passion for excellence. OMG is a global company operating manufacturing facilities in Massachusetts, Illinois, and Minnesota.
Position Overview
OMG currently operates in two Divisions: OMG Roofing Products and FastenMaster®. OMG Roofing Products is a leading global manufacturer and supplier of value-added components for the commercial roofing industry. The FastenMaster Division manufactures and markets innovative, premium quality wood-to-wood fasteners that are engineered to enable professional contractors to complete building projects safer, faster, and easier. The Senior R D Engineer will provide a leadership role in applying state-of-the-art technology to find solutions to some of our greatest opportunities - facilitating breakthroughs in product and process development. Additionally, you will provide mentorship to other Engineers, Technicians and Interns as you expand your project management and leadership skills. You will become part of a fun and uniquely talented group that explores game-changing technology that will shape how construction is done long into the future. Blend your education, hands-on experience, and research talents into a dream opportunity.
Position Responsibilities
  • Promote Safety as our #1 priority for all OMG employees and our customers.
  • Manage and lead the most complex R D projects; be a willing team member in supporting others in their project work.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to all within the department.
  • Identify new projects not yet conceived but potentially breakthrough in nature.
  • Foster a climate of continuous improvement and champion the use of Lean tools.
  • Develop higher level skills including computer modelling, computer-aided engineering, simulation, rapid prototyping, statistical analysis, and the use of other analytical tools - and a willingness to teach others both within and outside R D, how to use these tools effectively.
  • Communicate in written and oral form that is clear, concise and tailored to the target audience. Help other teammates to develop more effective technical presentations.
  • Drive accountability, consistency, and quality across all phases of work.
  • Attend conferences, trade shows, seminars and classes that expand the reach of knowledge into other areas - look for technology solutions outside of the construction world.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineer or Science (advanced degrees preferred)
  • Minimum of four-years of experience working as an Engineer
  • Demonstrated experience managing a team and project managing a complex project.
  • Creative, tenacious and a problem solver.
  • Self-motivated, strong sense of personal accountability and responsibility.
  • Team player and coachable.
  • Demonstrated hands-on aptitude with excellent communication skills.
  • Advanced computer skills - specifically Solidworks and MS Excel. Preferable experience with Minitab and COMSOL.
  • Positive can-do attitude.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle while maintaining focus on safe driving and avoiding all distractions when behind the wheel, especially cell phones.

  • Ability to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; and occasionally lift/push/pull/carry up to 25 pounds.

Must be able to complete all essential job functions listed in the position responsibilities, with or without reasonable accommodation.
