Applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Exercises judgement within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action.

Responsibilities

 

  • Working knowledge of scientific principles, research design, and research protocols, including analysis and collection of samples
  • Ability to work as part of a team with self-motivation for completing required daily tasks.
  • Able to independently carry out basic laboratory procedures and learn new skills (complex procedures) with an appropriate amount of training, as applicable to the position.
  • Able to independently set up experiments as outlined in the protocol.
  • Assists in the preparation of abstracts, manuscripts, and grant proposals on specific research areas that are in line with the labs long-term goals.
  • Interacts with other staff from various departments (clinical & non-clinical) to procure required equipment and supplies necessary for conducting the experiments.
  • Maintains an organized laboratory with instrumentation in proper working order.
  • Prepares budget proposals for supplies and equipment needed to conduct research. Monitors study expenditures to assure adherence to budgetary constraints.
  • Able to assist with experiment monitoring, data collection, and when needed simple data analysis.
  • Performs miscellaneous related duties as required.
Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Master of Science or equivalent with one to two years of laboratory research experience or Bachelor of Science degree with two to three years of laboratory research experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with laboratory animals, both small and large animals.
  • Experience working in a wet lab - performing basic molecular biology techniques.
  • Must be proficient in common computing skills such as word processing, spreadsheet data entry, email communication, and other computer applications as necessary.

Percent of time spent on: 50% Conducting research studies 25% Collecting and analyzing data 10% Preparing position papers, publications and grant proposals 05% Resource person for other investigators 05% Mentoring less experienced research personnel 05% Purchasing supplies Minimum physical requirements: 100% Kneeling / reaching 100% Finger dexterity 100% Talking / hearing / seeing 33% Lifting / carrying weight 0-20 pounds for 1-5 minutes
