Basic Function:As a pivotal member of the Knowlton Center for Career Exploration, the Assistant/Associate Director will lead our Healthcare, Clinical Research and Wellness Career Community, providing strategic direction and career coaching. This position will work in collaboration with the Pre-Health Faculty Advisor This is one of seven distinct career communities in the Knowlton Center. The Career Community Model integrates a student’s career experience, bringing together people, opportunities, tools and content to help a student throughout their career journey from exploration to launch.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Career Coaching
Provide 1:1 career coaching for students interested in Healthcare, Clinical Research and Wellness.
Guide students and alumni through the professional school application process, including application materials, entrance examinations (e.g.MCAT, DAT, etc.), personal statements and interviews, with regard to careers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, psychology, and other health-related fields.
Career Community Leadership and ProgrammingLead efforts to develop and expand the Healthcare, Clinical Research and Wellness Career Community.
Develop and execute programs and opportunities that help students in their exploration and preparation for careers related to Healthcare, Clinical Research and Wellness and adjacent careers. Collaborate with student organizations, academic departments and other campus groups.
Communicate frequently with Career Community members through various channels including blog posts, emails, social media, and more to share information such as upcoming events and opportunities, jobs and internships, industry trends and news and more.
Create opportunities for first and second year students to explore the general career field in collaboration with the Exploration Community Lead.
In collaboration with other staff (Employer and Alumni Relations, Denison Edge) identify skill gaps for students wishing to enter these fields and develop opportunities to close those gaps through information, programming, events and more.
Partner with Knowlton Center staff on the development and execution of special programming that help accelerate students’ preparation for internship and job interviews as well as help build their technical skills in areas for which they are applying. Examples include First Looks (day long visits to local employers), Career Readiness Boot Camps, and the Denison Internship Program.
Data and AssessmentCollect and maintain data pertaining to the admission of students and alumni to preprofessional schools and graduate programs.
Research and maintain appropriate resources for students and alumni relating to pre-professional post-graduate opportunities
Work with the Career Communities team to develop and implement methods to assess student outcomes, programming, and other Knowlton Center initiatives.
Strategic PartnershipsWork in collaboration with the Pre-Health Faculty Advisor
Develop and maintain strategic relationships with admission representatives from targeted professional and graduate schools.
In collaboration with the Employer Relations team, develop and steward relationships with employers to enhance recruitment efforts of Denison students and young alumni. Manage and communicate hiring timelines for students interested in Healthcare, Clinical Research and Wellness.
Support and engage students in their disciplines by working with academic departments and faculty. Serve as a liaison to Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Global Public Health, Health, Exercise and Sport Studies, Psychology and Neuroscience. Ensure that faculty have access to materials needed for referring students for career development support, and regularly engage faculty and students on support needs.
Manage the Community Health Coach Program in collaboration with Licking Memorial Hospital staff and Denison faculty. Oversee program logistics, recruitment of new cohorts and communication to all stakeholders.
Perform other duties as required.
Required:Bachelor’s Degree. A minimum of three years of experience advising students on decision-making and career exploration regarding pre-professional education in a career development setting/office.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and experience working with both young adults, peers, and valued partners.
Ability to successfully coach and advise a wide variety of individuals as they make the transition from college to employment and/or graduate school.
Strong project management skills from concept to execution. Strong analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills. Excellent administrative and organization skills with attention to details. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to produce and present polished presentations.
Strong work ethic, a desire to innovate, and deliver outcomes for students.
Commitment to the mission of a liberal arts college.
Willing and available to work nights and weekends and occasional travel commitments, both locally and out of region.
Preferred Qualifications:Masters Degree in Student Personnel, Counseling and Guidance, Higher Education, an academic discipline, or related field. Previous experience or knowledge on professional schools and/or healthcare career pathways.
