The incumbent of this position will carry out research in molecular breeding and biotechnology to enhance the productivity and nutritional quality and safety of the primary South Carolina crops. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:60% - Essential - Experiments: Plans, develops, conducts and synthesizes independent field and laboratory research.
Individual's ability to think through the process, i.e., his/her ability to layout the whole scheme and perform stepwise experiments to achieve the desired objectives of the research project.
10% - Essential - Greenhouse, Field Work, and Data Management: Assists in sowing, harvesting, and data collection. Performs data entry and statistical analyses of data collection. Creates computer graphics. Develops and maintains web pages for laboratory and research projects.
Employee's ability to record, analyze, and present data.
10% - Essential - Training: Trains interns, volunteers, visitors, undergraduate and graduate students in lab techniques and lab safety.
Individual's ability to receive training and communicate requirements to laboratory incumbents and assure the proper use of equipment and reagents under the confines of safety regulations.
10% - Essential - Lab Equipment and Supply Maintenance: Maintains lab equipment. Orders and manages payment for supplies. Compares pricing and selects best value. Researches new technology to enhance lab efficiency.
Individual's ability to keep an inventory of reagents and supplies, and maintain the functionality of laboratory by managing supply stock and keeping all equipment up and running.
10% - Essential - Presentations and publications: Writes publications and grant proposals, presents research papers at professional meetings and communicates with national and international colleagues.
Individual's ability to synthesize results and report them in a presentable format.
Education - 1st Master's Degree - Plant sciences, genetics, biochemistry, food science, biomedicine, or allied fields.

COMPENSATION INFORMATIONAnticipated Salary Range: $42,800 - $50,000
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
