WHAT WE DO:

Calidi Biotherapeutics is a clinical-stage immuno-oncology company with proprietary technology that is revolutionizing the utilization of oncolytic viruses through an allogeneic cell-based delivery system. Calidi Biotherapeutics is advancing this potent stem cell and oncolytic virus combination for use in multiple difficult-to-treat oncology indications. Our team is also developing a universal cell delivery system to protect, amplify and potentiate oncolytic viruses currently in development.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

Performs research and/or development in collaboration with others for projects. Makes

detailed observations, analyzes data and interprets results. Research involves the use of oncolytic viruses, tumor biopsies, murine and human cells cell lines, experimental cancer model tissues, and blood from cancer patients and healthy donors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs high level tasks and play a lead role in animal studies including planning, dosing, executing IN VIVO experiments under limited supervision.
  • Examines data and prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analysis, ensuring experiments are well documented and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Presents data to internal project teams.
  • Fields questions from Research Associates and escalate to scientific leadership as necessary. Assist in troubleshooting.
  • Performs IN VIVO studies to evaluate efficacy in murine models.
  • Administrates of test substances by various routes (i.e., intratumoral, IP, IV, SC, PO, topical, etc.).
  • Performs mouse necropsies, tissue harvest, and mouse blood collection via: cardiac puncture, submandibular, retro orbital etc.).
  • Performs IN VIVO imaging to monitor tumor growth (IVIS or equivalent).
  • Maintains and Update IACUC.
  • Leads coordination with other team members vivarium activities for supplies, audit, organizes.
  • Trains new RAs in vivarium on documentation and techniques.
  • Works with the study director to develop Protocols, study plans and timelines and coordination of activities.
  • Coordinates and keep track all animal studies in house (status, summary overview).
  • Supports in vitro assays: cell cultures, qPCR, histology, xcelligence.
  • Manages and observes animals for general health and overall well-being.
  • Adheres to SOPs to ensure study integrity and quality.
  • Maintains accurate experiment records in various internal databases and perform basic data analysis.
  • Adheres to good health and safety practices and compliance with applicable EH&S rules and participating in mandatory safety training programs.
  • Independently performs all methods and conduct all study types commonly employed by the team.
  • Performs other duties as directed by Management

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • B.S. or higher in life science, or related field
  • 5 or more years of experience animal laboratory setting
  • Current knowledge of pre-clinical tumor models, animal handling and dosing.
  • Strong hands-on experience with animal handling, dosing (Intratumoral, IP, IV, PO, and SC), bleeding, necropsy and tissue harvest.
  • Experience in immuno-oncology, TILS isolation, and flow cytometry is a plus.
  • Experience in in vitro assay; like qPCR, cloning, ELISA will be preferred.
  • Good organizational and documentation skills.
  • Dedication to working in a team-oriented environment to contribute to shared project.
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as calculation of dilutions and statistical analyses.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to effectively communicate with other research teams
  • Ability to read and understand technical procedures.
  • Ability to write protocols and reports.
  • Ability to effectively present data and respond to questions from co-workers.
