Healthcare Analyst is looking for a strong Research Associate to support established equity research coverage of 15 companies in the biopharmaceutical space. The Research Associate II is responsible for providing information, data gathering, analysis, modeling, and organizational support to the senior level Research Analysts. Has mastered the foundational skills required of an Associate level II. At this level, assumes significantly more writing and modeling responsibilities. Is responsible for developing a solid understanding of the assigned sector and can clearly state and defend the investment thesis for all stocks in the assigned sector. Must have relevant industry experience (pharmaceutical/biotechnology/consulting or equity research experience).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Comprehensive financial modeling and valuation skills: Responsible for building and maintaining models that include full financial statements, market models and valuations. Attention to detail is critical.
- Basic account acumen: Pharmaceutical sector is active in M&A. The ability to perform consolidation analysis is a plus.
- Strong writing and analytical skills: Responsible for generating initiation reports, create marketing presentations, and writing research notes with analysis under heavy time constraints.
- Strong communication skills: Interact with internal sales/trading and external clients, over time. Attend management meetings, company sponsored investor/analyst days and medical meetings, requiring a self-assured and confident personality as well as a highly inquiring mind. Professionalism is critical.
- Passion for the stock market and the equity research function: Ability to form investment ideas and formulate opinions on companies and stocks.
- Ability to analyze trial results and attend medical meetings is a plus.
- Strong initiative and work ethic, ability to work independently, capable of managing multiple simultaneous projects and prioritizing responsibilities, and ability to think creatively.
- Monitor and evaluate company news and related events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree with a concentration in Finance and/or MBA; MD degree not required but helpful.
- Modest work experience in consulting, venture capital, finance, biotech, or related areas with a focus on the healthcare space (1 - 4 years) strongly preferred
- Demonstrated interest in the healthcare sector and in financial markets
- Knowledge of neuroscience and rare disease spaces a plus
- Excellent scholastic history (e.g. grade point average)
- Attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and ability to multi-task are required
- History of leadership and excellent teamwork abilities
- Clear, concise writing and strong verbal communication skills
- Strong PC skills and ability to rapidly navigate new databases (Powerpoint, Excel, FactSEt/Bloomberg and IMS).
