Center for Stem Cellsand Organoids Medicine (CuSTOM) is soliciting applications for a Research Assistant II/III position in CuSTOM Accelerator Lab (CA). This individual will be responsible for deriving and expanding the necessary cell types to develop stem-cell based preclinical tools for drug discovery and development. In addition, this candidate will be in charge of maintaining autologous organoids as a solution for end-stage intestinal disease and other disorders. He/she will support a variety of internal R&D projects and collaborations with industry partners (biotech and pharma) by performing quantitative polymerase chain reaction assays, fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry and various plate-based assays on daily basis. This position is part of a multidisciplinary team led by experienced Stem Cell and developmental biologists and engineers. The ideal candidate has previous hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture, various laboratory techniques outlined above, and a good understanding of cell biology. Experience in Stem Cell derivation, expansion, and differentiation is a plus.
Research Assistant will be responsible for:
- Perform induced pluripotent Stem Cell (iPSC) culturing, including freeze, thaw, culturing, quality control testing.
- Perform directed differentiation of iPSCs to various tissue lineages, mainly liver and intestinal organoids.
- Perform PCR, RT-PCR, and other common molecular biology techniques.
- Perform flow cytometry and cell-sorting.
- Perform immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescent staining.
- Perform microscopy, including confocal.
- Maintain records of results and methodologies in a log of work performed.
- Maintain equipment, lab area and supplies in a neat professional manner
- Prepare media and other materials using appropriate procedures
- Carry out all laboratory activities in compliance with applicable regulations and protocols
- Placing ordering on laboratory reagents.
- Conduct literature searches and reviews, compiling information for journals and suggesting uses for new techniques
- Attend courses, lectures and conferences to further own knowledge of research and laboratory techniques, consulting with other researchers and technicians to exchange information
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required for RAII:
·High school diploma or equivalent AND 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline OR
Preferred:
·Bachelor's degree in a related field
Required for RAIII:
·Bachelor's degree in a related field AND 1 year of directly related experience OR Master's degree in a related field
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s Degree in cellular biology, developmental biology, biomedical engineering or related field
- Experience in a cell biology, developmental biology or biomedical engineering in academia or industry
- Aseptic Technique and mammalian cell culture
- Hands-on experience in common laboratory techniques such as qPCR, microscopy, ELISA, flow cytometry etc.
- Knowledge of cell biology
- Ability to initiate and manage day-to-day tasks effectively, including multi-tasking, flexibility and adaptability
- Ability to independently follow experimental methods and protocols
- Comfortable working in a hands-on laboratory environment and have good attention to detail and good lab practices
