The Audio Visual Design Engineer will provide sales support and project engineering services by assisting with client need analysis, system design, proposal generation, labor estimation, shop drawing creation, system testing and configuration. Job Details
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support Account Executives with customer need analysis/site surveys
- Participate in project meetings with clients, architect and other stakeholders
- Generate preliminary system design
- Create bill of materials, labor estimates and scope of work narrative for proposals
- Work with the sales and installation teams to ensure a smooth transition from sales through installation and on to customer acceptance verification
- Develop comprehensive, audio-visual equipment designs, including low voltage wiring, trim-out, equipment rack and control room layout, system processing and control, display technologies and network systems for transport of high-bandwidth audio and video signals.
- Participate in design, and brainstorming meetings as needed to define the scope of work, interpret project specifications and drawings, determine system layout, programming requirements, system testing and develop bill of materials to include appropriate amount of job-related labor to generate comprehensive project equipment lists and perform the project
- Coordinate design and engineering tasks with architects and engineers
- Coordinate with security experts to design systems for secure environments
- Design the AV layouts using Visio, CAD, and/or 3D building information systems
- Generate schematic diagrams showing integration of AV, control, and power distribution systems
- Generate and manage project documentation, including: drawings, cut sheets, manuals
- Participate in final drawing review processes and quality assurance assessment
- Provide system configuration and programming files
- Perform firmware updates for system components as needed
- Configure devices (IP addresses, EDID settings, audio adjustments, etc.) as needed
- Create and adjust DSP files for Biamp, Clear-One and QSC audio processors as needed
- Perform physical integration and testing of AV components as needed
- Commission systems as needed
- Generate as-built documentation
- Assist with end-user training
- Act as subject matter expert for after-project support
- Keep up with market and technological trends
- Support company training initiatives
- Participate in training and professional development activities as prescribed by management
- Travel locally within the selling / installation geography serviced by the company
Minimum Qualifications:
- Three+ years of experience in the commercial AV industry
- Experience with Visio and AutoCAD plus proficiency in Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
- Must be able to pass Government background checks for security access
- Experience and certifications configuring DSP platforms
- Familiar with audio transport platforms such as: Dante
- Experience and certifications in configuring video transport platforms such as: Crestron, and Extron, etc.
- Experience and certifications with AV control systems including Crestron, Extron and Qsys.
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting IP systems
- Creative problem solver with sound judgment and high degree of integrity
- Must have clear and professional communication skills (written and oral) both internally and externally
- Ability to balance multiple tasks with changing priorities
