Job description

Job Purpose: You are a strategic, collaborative, transparent and communicative fundraiser and leader with a passion for building a strategic fundraising program. You manage the Relational Giving team and assure that they are implementing a program strategy targeting individuals making mid, major and campaign contributions to support the mission of AHS. You ensure that gift officers are motivated to meet their metrics and you hold them accountable. You model best practices by actively working your own portfolio of donors and prospects with the capacity to make major gifts of $25,000 or more.

Schedule: Full-time 40 hours per week

Pay: $77,000 - $87,000 per year

Location/Remote Capabilities: Once onboarded, the person in this position will have the opportunity to work remotely for the bulk of their time. Access to reliable internet, ability to prioritize work independently, and foster relationships while working in a hybrid (remote and in-person) environment required. Must live in or have easy access to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and be available for frequent face-to-face interactions in Minneapolis/St. Paul and greater Minnesota regions.

What you will be doing:

Leadership — Lead the team of major and mid-level giving gift officers and a prospect development professional. Own outcomes, work collaboratively with your direct reports and peers, and hold yourself, your team, and other stakeholders accountable. Model the coaching approach to leadership and participate in organization-wide leadership work. Support a culture of improvement and employee development. Manage resources responsibly.

Communication — Foster an environment of open communication and approachability. Convey information in a clear, complete, and timely manner, consistent with organizational messaging. Listen, pay attention, and be a responsible steward of information.

Strategy — Partner with the team to develop robust, integrated major and mid-level giving programs and strategies to increase giving and levels of participation among managed donors. Guide and execute fiscal year fundraising plan to include prospect qualification, prospect research, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies to increase revenues.

Collaboration —Partner with teams across Advancement to implement strategies that advance donors through the donor continuum. Establish and meet annual budget goals and metrics for giving officers.

Support — Champion donor cultivation and stewardship. Oversee implementation and evaluations of segmented and integrated campaigns for managed donors. Advocate for and facilitate a great donor experience. Be an ambassador and a champion for AHS.

Analysis —Prepare regular reports on progress related to fundraising; analyze reports and act/adapt accordingly. Monitor trends and needs. Leverage data and insights to inform future work.

Relationship Building — Develop and maintain relationships within the fundraising and donor community.

Process — Manage a small portfolio of prospective major gifts donors.

Culture — Foster an open and inclusive work environment by modeling AHS’s behaviors and values, consistent with the vision and mission of the organization.

What we are looking for:

Experience — 3+ years of successfully motivating and supervising gift officers; proven leadership experience in prospecting, cultivating and soliciting donor gifts. Major and planned giving experience with proven track record of successfully meeting metrics and soliciting gifts of $25,000 and above. (Some capital campaign experience ideal.)

Adaptability and Emotional Intelligence — Strong critical thinking skills and a high degree of emotional intelligence. Ability to solve problems and work positively, professionally, and with close attention to detail in a variety of situations. Ability to balance shifting priorities in a variety of situations.

Computer Skills—Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Communication — Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, must have ability to work as a leader and partner collaboratively with external and internal customers and departments.

Physical & Emotional Capabilities — Must be able to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment, including the humane use of euthanasia. Must have a high level of resiliency.

Schedule — Availability to work during operational hours with the expectation to work varied hours including evening and weekend shifts.
