Who we are and what we do:
The Regulatory Boards Division is responsible for licensing and regulating approximately 300,000 professionals in Tennessee. We provide service through the initial licensure and renewal processes and also work directly in the field to conduct inspections and investigations' ensuring support and safety for our licensees and the general public.
How you make a difference in this role:
The Executive Director of the Contractors Board works with Department leadership and the Contractors Board to determine the direction and execute the vision for professions regulated through the Board. The Executive Director will have the opportunity to identify and implement numerous process improvements with the support of the Board staff.
Key Responsibilities:
This executive service position will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations and the execution of licensing functions and process improvements for the Contractors Board, which licenses and regulates home improvement and contracting professions, including Limited License Electricians and Limited License Plumbers. These duties include, but are not limited to:
- Implementation of Board decisions, policies, and procedures, and ensuring compliance with all laws and rules that regulate these professions in Tennessee.
- Manages and supervises the daily operations and staff of the Contractors Board in all functions, including, but not limited to processing applications, complaints, regulation, and continuing education.
- Ensures efficient and timely licensing by identifying and implementing effective licensing processes.
- Works with Administration section to support annual Customer Focused Government goals and Division goals on the Department's strategic plan.
- Monitors staff performance and provides timely feedback concerning performance of assigned job duties.
- Consults with and collaborates with Board chair to plan and coordinate Board meetings and develop associated meeting minutes.
- Provides Board members with the necessary information needed to fulfill their regulatory duties and to keep them timely informed between meetings.
- Confers with the Board legal counsel and the Assistant Commissioner of the Regulatory Boards Division at agreed-on intervals and as needed to operate an efficient and effective program area.
- Administers enforcement activities, including investigations, complaints, and hearings.
- Represents the Board and educates licensees at events across the State.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree and 5 years of progressively responsible administrative or regulatory experience is preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, interpersonal and team building skills, and ability to balance multiple priorities is essential to success in the role.
- Previous management experience is strongly preferred.
