That’s why our Recreation Specialist – Kid Zone is such an important role in our Parks & Recreation department. This position provides a fun, safe, and engaging atmosphere for participants in our drop-in Kid Zone at the new Redmond Senior and Community Center. This is a fantastic, part-time position for someone who has worked in a childcare setting, youth sports, recreation, or camps. You will be successful in this role if you think about ways to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities for children, positively engage with youth and families, and work well in a fast-paced environment.
Hours: We are currently looking to fill multiple Recreation Specialist – Kid Zone positions for the following shifts: Mon-Fri 8am-1pm, Mon-Thurs 5pm-8pm, and Sat 8am-1pm. The position is limited to a maximum of 29 hours per week on average and no more than 1,040 hours per year.
Locations: Work will be conducted at our new Redmond Senior and Community Center.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide day-to-day supervision of children in our drop-in Kids Zone with shift options of Mon-Fri 8am-1pm, Mon-Thurs 5pm-8pm, and Sat 8am-1pm
- Plan, organize, and lead activities for the drop-in Kids Zone, including but not limited to arts and crafts, science experiments, sports, organized games, songs, and storytelling
- Be actively involved with children and engaged in activities at all times
- Teach teamwork and social skills, while ensuring a positive and safe experience for every child
- Professionally engage with parents/guardians to provide pertinent information about their child’s experience and to promote upcoming activities and events
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment by consistently providing a high level of customer service to activity participants, parents/guardians, and staff
- Perform emergency First Aid and CPR as needed and according to established guidelines, providing for the proper safety of participants in the Kid Zone and Community Center
- Ensure all Kid Zone equipment and toys are clean, safe, and stored properly
- Attend staff meetings and training programs as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must be enthusiastic, energetic, and passionate about working with children, as well as have an interest in community recreation, art, and/or educational programs
- Previous experience planning and leading recreation activities for children ages 5 -12 preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Successful passing of a required background check
- One to two years of applicable experience
- Must have or obtain current First Aid and CPR certification?within 30 days of hire.
- Minimum Age 16
- Valid Washington State Driver's License and a driving record that meets city standards preferred
