General Summary

The Recreation Aide II - Membership position is responsible for following directions to implement educational, cultural, athletic, and special event recreation and program activities. Employees must be able to follow the lead of the Recreation Services Leader, have knowledge of recreation programs and activities, and possess effective communication and organizational skills. This role involves providing exceptional customer service, managing membership-related tasks, and assisting with front desk operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Assist Personal Trainers and Instructors with administrative duties, classes, and clients.
  • Clean and organize the fitness area, including machines, equipment, and floors.
  • Guide and counsel facility patrons and program participants on park, facility, and program rules, equipment care, and acceptable conduct in a helpful and positive manner.
  • Assist with opening and closing recreation facilities, parks, and the Copper Sky Multi-Generational Center following the correct procedures.
  • May act as Manager on Duty during the opening and closing of a facility, park, and/or the Copper Sky Multi-Generational Center.
  • Work at the front desk, including answering phones, taking registrations, and processing payments without assistance, seeking help from other Recreation Aides, Recreation Lead, Recreation Services Specialist, or Recreation Coordinator when needed.
  • Issue credits and refunds if necessary, exercising the ability and authority to do so.
  • Ability to activate and execute the Emergency Action Plan.
  • Monitor the proper and safe use of program facilities by the general public.
  • Respond to complaints, inquiries, and information requests.
  • Complete and report accident or injury forms occurring in the assigned area.
  • Assist with daily housekeeping duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum and Preferred Entrance Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age or older.
  • Position requires working flexible hours and availability for weekend, evening and holiday work.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification and First Aid Course; certification.
  • Previous Public Sector Experience.
  • Bilingual skills a plus.

  • Critical Incident report writing.

Ability to:

  • Perform duties while being tactful and courteous with children and adults.
  • Develop positive relationships with customers.
  • Communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc., to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
  • Exercise continuous physical movement.
  • Work flexible hours and have availability for Saturdays, Sundays, evenings, and holidays.
  • Lead staff and customers when the emergency plan is activated.
  • Provide membership tours and make sales.
  • Provide accurate information on all youth and teen programs.
  • Respond to customer requests as an acting Manager on Duty (M.O.D.).

Other Job Requirements

Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job, may be substituted for Preferred Qualifications at the discretion of the hiring authority.
