GENERAL SUMMARY

The Recreation AideChild Watch position is responsible for supervising children of various ages and preparing activities such as crafts, games, or lessons that appeal to each child’s interest or developmental level while maintaining a safe environment. Employees must be able to follow the lead of the Recreation Services Leader and have knowledge of recreation programs and activities; principles and processes for providing customer and personal service; the ability to work independently; follow a plan, be organized, work with groups of children; and effective verbal and written communication skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Provides a safe and fun environment in which both children and their parents feel comfortable.
  • Assist with daily operations such as, opening and closing the program area, and checking in and out children via the established Child Watch safety protocol.
  • Ability to activate and execute the Emergency Action Plan.
  • Develop and coordinate daily and weekly activities.
  • Guides and counsel’s facility patrons and program participants on park, facility, program rules, care of equipment, and acceptable conduct in a helpful and positive manner.
  • Communicate with the parents/guardians of program participants when there is a need.
  • Answer Child Watch telephone and radio calls.
  • Complete and report accidents or injuries forms occurring in the assigned area.
  • Communicate with the lead and supervisor concerning supplies and program materials needed.
  • Develop positive relationships with customers.
  • Provides routine information on facility rules and division activities to participants and the general public.
  • Assist with daily housekeeping duties.
  • Assist in training and mentoring new Rec Aides.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum and Preferred Entrance Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age or older
  • Six (6) months experience working in the care of children.
  • Position requires working flexible hours and availability for weekend, evening and holiday work.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification and First Aid Course; certification.
  • American Red Cross Babysitting Certificate desired.
  • Previous Public Sector Experience.
  • Bilingual skills a plus.
  • Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card a plus.

  • Build rapport with children of various personality types.
  • Communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc. to sufficient exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
  • Lead staff and customers when the emergency plan is activated.
  • Provide accurate information on all youth and teen programs.

Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job, may be substituted for Preferred Qualifications at the discretion of the hiring authority.
