DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Water & Wastewater Utility
HOURS OF WORK: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday
LOCATION: 3000 Arctic BoulevardUnder general supervision from the AWWU General Accounting Supervisor, perform critical and frequent complex monthly reconciliations of major balance sheet accounts, including AWWU's principal bank accounts. Analyze monthly balance sheet accounts for error or unusual balances and research problems, prepare correcting entries to bring financial accounts into compliance with GAAP. Maintain detailed descriptions of General Ledger (GL) accounts including their purpose, inflow and outflow activity and detailed instructions for reconciling each account, and for troubleshooting the reconciliation processes. Reconcile interface activities between AWWU's Customer Information System (CIS), work order management system (WMS), and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. Research proper accounting for unusual or unique transactions and participate in the preparation of monthly closing reports indicating new procedures, training or policies needed to improve AWWU financial reporting practices.
Maintain audit records and documentation. Prepare annual external audit work papers, reports, and schedules. Support AWWU's General Accounting or Plant Accounting activities as needed.
Perform other related duties as assignedBachelor's degree in Accounting, Economics, Management, Business Administration or a related discipline and three (3) years of professional accounting work experience.

A certificate as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and three (3) years of professional accounting work experience.
OR
Associate's degree in Accounting, Economics, Management, Business Administration or a related discipline and five (5) years of professional accounting work experience.
OR
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and seven (7) years of experience in accounting, payroll, or similar office responsibility.
Preferences:
- Experience in accounting reconciliations.
- Experience creating linking spreadsheets, creating pivot tables, creating v-lookups, and creating if/then statements.
