Receptionist
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Receptionist is responsible for a variety of billing duties throughout the office. The Receptionist is responsible for answering phones, greeting clients, reviewing reports, AR, and notes to provide collection efforts for a Behavioral Health company. This function may include resolving edits, retrieving medical records, and system reports as requested. The position will respond to billing inquiries from insurance companies and identify and resolve general and complex issues regarding account adjustments, and re-billing insurance as needed.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Receptionist will be responsible for the following:
· Review of reports by sorting claims. Ability to prioritize and maximize the probability of collecting old AR.
· Review of the following areas in order to ensure accurate and compliant submission of claims:
o Review and calculation of the proper units, IE: HCPC’s, CPT codes.
o Review of Place of Service.
o Review of dates of service
o Review of authorization (if applicable)
· Billing and booking of the AR to reflect the contracted or allowable price within the accounts receivable system.
· Transmit claims in an Electronic format (preferred method, unless claim is required to be submitted in a paper or faxed format with the necessary documentation).
· Review and correction of any front-end denials.
· Assists in daily functions of the front-end office for a counseling center including:
o Answering phones
o Greeting clients
o Verification of benefits and eligibility
o Use of different portals for claims status and benefits and eligibility
o Cash posting
o Collection of co-pays and/or deductibles
· Other miscellaneous duties as assigned by management.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
· Bachelors,Associates, or Medical Billing certificate preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Three (3) or more years of medical billing or collections experience.
· Strong math skills; ability to understand conversions, ie: grams to milligrams.
· Expert knowledge of medical insurance and State and Federal rules and regulations related to billing medical insurance claims.
· Knowledge ofHCPCS, CPT ICD- 10 coding.
· A strong knowledge base of mental health, specialty infusion billing is preferred.
· Knowledge of accounting and cash handling principles.
· Knowledge of information necessary for HCFA 1500 requirements.
· Knowledge of clearing house transmissions, front end denials, and resolving issues related to electronic claim transmissions.
· Extensive knowledge in insurance claims appeals with extensive experience in use and understanding of coding as well as demonstration of coding guidelines including medical terminology.
· Strong knowledge base of multiple billing types and functions, ie: patient billing, insurance, and other misc. types of invoicing.
· Knowledge of mental health, home infusion and pharmacy billing.
· Knowledge in self-pay, manufacture programs, co-pay assistance programs, and mandated charity laws.
· Must be detail oriented.
· Strong experience with Excel, Word and Outlook.
· Able to identify problems and recommend solutions.
· A self-starter who is accountable and requires minimal direction and supervision.
· An individual who is open to new ideas and a creative and flexible individual who is comfortable working in a small to medium size organization.
· Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing and is responsible for promoting and maintaining excellent communication skills in the following relationships; management, third party payers, peer to peer,patients and physician offices.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Knowledge of Mental Health, home infusion billing/collections.
· Medical Terminology.
