Devil Mountain began as a seedling in Northern California in 1995. What began as a wholesale brokerage of horticulture, the company has since opened its own growing grounds and is flourishing by recently expanding into Southern California.

RECEIVING II - JOB DESCRIPTION

The Receiving Department off loads plant material inventory from our transfer trucks or outside vendors. They inspect plant material received, prepare it for stocking and in most cases assist with stocking the plant material to the correct location in the nursery.

Essential Functions:

• Offloads plant material in various and all sizes at the receiving dock. Uses Team lift techniques to ensure safety and notifies Receiving Supervisor if there are equipment issues or supplies that need to be replenished.
• Check plant material received per the purchase order and marks items not received on bill of lading or on Latitude handheld device. Before posting received material, cross check and notate discrepancies.
• Check plant species/variety and size to ensure it is what was ordered.
• Works with the Quality Control lead to ensure the health of the plant material is adequate. Notifies the buying department of poor quality so it can be sent back to vendor.
• Assign cones (different colors for various locations) to plant material that will be transferred to other locations.
• Ensure plant material arriving from Southern CA or Oregon is moved to inspection area before being stocked.
• Prepares plant material for stocking (watering, setting aside for quarantine, etc.)
• Stocks plants to correct location in nursery.
• Operates Kubota Tractor to offload and stock larger plant material. Ensures morning equipment inspection is performed before use and reports any equipment issue to Yard Manager immediately.
• Picks up empty pallets and racks around the yard at the end of the day.
• General care for the nursery grounds, keeping the nursery clean, organized, and safe for employees, customers, and vendors.
• General care for nursery stock (plants), ensures plants are watered, handled with care, and are placed in the appropriate location.

Additional Tasks:

• Keep receiving area clean and organized (loading dock and offices).
• May assist in other nursery departments as needed.
• Duties are subject to change at any time per management’s discretion.

Job Specifications:

Constantly works in outdoor weather conditions on uneven ground surfaces. Must be able to remain in a stationary position (standing) more than 50-90% of the time. When stocking plants, bending at the waist, twisting, turning, and squatting is required. Ability to climb into vendor trucks without the loading dock.

Lifting requirements: Up to 50 lbs. 75% of the time. Up to 100-225 lbs. 25% of the time (team lift required with 2-4 people).

Hand movement: Gross grasping for lifting and moving plant material.
