Description:
The primary function of a Research & Development (R&D) Machinist is to accurately and timely manufacture machined components to be used in the assembly of final prototype products.
The incumbent will be accountable for the following functions and responsibilities:
- Machine Operator
- Ensure that machine order quantities and actual part quantities match.
- Interpret Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Utilize part inspection equipment to include gage pins, calipers, height gage, micrometers, depth gages, and thread gages.
- Read basic print interpretation, including dimension callouts, tolerance, angles, radius, and finish.
- Identify parts correctly, accurately, and legibly for traceability.
- Start and observe machine operation to detect machine malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust offsets as required.
- Produce parts in a pre-determined production time frame.
- Inspect first part to print requirements and ensure that all parts meet the print requirements afterward.
- Setup Machinist
- Study and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, and set-up requirements to maximize efficiency.
- Revise programs as needed based on engineering changes.
- Design process improvements and machine time reductions, including tool and new product testing.
- Set up or changeover of machine to include tool/insert selection.
- Retrieve programmed instructions from machines as needed.
- Verify that the program matches the print part number and current revision.
- Read, measure, calculate, evaluate, and complete product quality and dimensional requirements as defined in product blueprints and company quality standards.
- Perform first article inspection of parts to print, ensuring that every dimension is within tolerance and/or making sure that the right adjustments are made.
- Verify that the part count matches the Work Order count and that Work Orders receive signatures upon completion.
- Make adjustments to compensate for malfunctions or out-of-tolerance condition.
- Coordinate with Machine Shop Manager and Machine Programmer to incorporate/optimize manufacturing processes at R&D level.
- General
- Perform job tasks in a safe manner at all times while adhering to the company safety policies.
- Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Maintain required attendance and punctuality as scheduled to meet production goals.
- Manage a clean and productive work station.
- Perform other functions and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
The incumbent must at a minimum possess the following:
- High school diploma or GED is required. A technical degree or certificate in machining is preferred.
- Three plus years of experience with Esprit in a manufacturing setting is preferred.
- Ability to work in a team oriented, high-pressured, and fast paced environment.
- Ability to comprehend production requirements.
- Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language fluently.
- Basic computer literacy skills.
- Must be self-motivated and be able to work with little or no supervision.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to effectively operate multiple machines at one time.
- Understanding of G&M Programming is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The incumbent must be able to:
- Lift a minimum of 50lbs, repeatedly, without assistance and up to 100lbs with assistance.
- Push/pull heavy objects with the proper equipment.
- Wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to safety glasses or approved side shields and steel-toe footwear.
- Stand for long periods of time, up to 8-12 hours a day.
