Job Description

Job Title: Optical Lab Regular Part Time Machine Operators (Working 30 Hours a Week).

Work Hours: Immediately hiring for regular part time machine operators Thursday-Saturday all shifts (Schedules and shift assignments may be subject to change based on business needs). Eligible for company benefits.

SUMMARY:

Hoya Ramsey has immediate openings for regular part time machine operators for all shifts. Hoya is a wholesale optical manufacturer producing prescription optical lenses for eye doctors and other wholesale or retail optical centers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary Duties are general to most departments. Duties may vary per department.

1. Prepare and clean lenses to load into trays for processing.
2. Ensure lenses are clean of dust and debris.
3. Loading, sorting and prepping lenses for processing.
4. Monitor machine status for auto surfacing line that generates Rx prescription.
5. Use or load specialized coating machines to add treatments to surfaced lenses.
6. Set up lenses into racks, feed, or load lenses into machine.
7. Visual inspection of the lenses after process.
8. May include inserting completed lenses into frames.
9. Perform multiple functions in department related to the processing of lenses.
10. Maintain clean and organized workstation.
11. Ability to work on computer-controlled equipment in some areas.
12. As part of the lens process other areas include inventory/stock room/shipping/tray up/data entry/frame/lens storage.
13. Other duties as assigned.

SECONDARY DUTIES:

1. Be able to multi-task as required by workflow or department supervisor or manager.
2. Use of material related to cleaning lenses and specific machine related chemicals. Safety training provided as necessary.
3. Maintain a clean and organized work area.
4. Perform duties as requested by supervisor/manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED

Experience:

• No experience required for entry level operator roles.
• 1 to 3 years of machine operator experience in the optical field for skilled operator positions.
• Experience in the Optical Industry as it relates to ophthalmic lenses is a plus.
• Experience in general manufacturing a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Able and willing to work as a team.
• Basic math.
• Must be willing to work overtime when needed (may include weekends or holidays).
• Good hand to eye coordination.
• Able to read and write English language.
• Experience or knowledge working with automated equipment is a plus, but not required.
• Problem solving skills helpful.
• Ability to work without constant supervision.
• Attendance/Punctuality - Is consistently at work and on time.

Physical Requirements:

• While performing the duties of this job, most positions will require the employee to stand and use hands to manipulate or handle lenses or lab trays. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. During maintenance, employee required to squat, stretch, twist, bend, and be able to work inside tight areas.

Safety Requirements:

• Basic understanding of the Injury and Illness Prevention Program and the Hazard Communication Program.
• Closed toe shoe required with heel support.
• While performing the duties of certain jobs, the employee may be regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. In the Hard Coating area an employee is regularly exposed to caustic chemicals and heat. All proper PPE is provided.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
• Must wear safety glasses, gloves and/or finger cuffs as required by the task.
