- SUMMARY:
- Lead a team of indirect and indirect reports through example and accountability.
- Coach, train, and support the development of the team members under your direction.
- Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines.
- Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety.
- Proactively develop plans to close gaps and develop continuous improvement programs.
- Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law.
- Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention.
- Collaborate with site leadership, contractors, government, and community stakeholders.
- Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations.
- Perform quality reviews of incident and injury investigation findings and communicate any deficiencies identified to ensure a robust process is in place for determining an accurate root cause(s), causal factor(s) and other systemic driver(s) associated with leadership, culture, and accountability.
- Oversee all worker’s compensation claims and processes.
- Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures.
- Proactively identify threats, trends and opportunities derived from data, conversations, and observations.
- Stay informed on regulatory changes and best practices.
- Be diligent, punctual, and reliable.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in safety-related field preferred but not required.
- 5 – 7 years of experience in Safety Manager or similar role.
- 5 – 7 years of experience in transportation, logistics, or other industry overseeing safety with drivers involved.
- Previous experience in creating safety program or changing culture of safety.
- Previous experience managing a team of direct and indirect reports.
- Must have a valid state-issued Driver License.
- Must be able to pass TSA fingerprinted background check clearance.
- Proven change agent in culture of safety.
- Must have a strong understanding of OSHA, DOT, and Workers’ Comp laws.
- Must have good knowledge of investigation procedures and root cause analysis.
- Strong ability with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent organizational and motivational skills.
- Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability.
- Strategic thinker with creative and excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Resilient self-starter, who can act independently and learn quickly within a rapidly evolving environment.
- Strong analytical skills for interpretation of data to effectively manage risk.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with site operations, functional leaders and external clients and vendors.
