The Quality Manager holds a pivotal position within the site's Leadership Team. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the quality program at the site with the primary objective of guaranteeing that the company's products and services consistently surpass customer expectations. This role assumes a leadership mantle, extending support across all manufacturing operations to drive operational excellence, elevate product quality, and ensure an unparalleled customer experience. Serving as a strategic ally to all departments, the Quality Manager collaborates extensively, fostering continuous enhancement of the plant's processes and product standards.
Key Responsibilities
Safety:
- Drive and maintain a safe working environment through accident prevention, investigation, equipment maintenance, and policy enforcement and compliance.
Strategic Planning:
- Develop and implement strategic Quality goals and initiatives aligned with business objectives.
Quality Systems Management:
- Implement, maintain, and improve a robust Quality Management System (QMS) in line with industry standards (ISO, Six Sigma, etc.) and Southwire's policies.
- Continuously assess and improve quality processes for enhanced efficiency.
- Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.
Management Review:
- Monitor and report monthly key quality metrics, analyzing performance trends and customer feedback.
- Drive corrective actions and improvement plans at the site based on Quality Management System adequacy and effectiveness.
Quality Assurance:
- Establish and enforce quality assurance protocols throughout the production process.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to set quality standards for new products or processes.
Supplier Quality Management:
- Collaborate with procurement to assess and qualify suppliers based on quality metrics.
- Monitor supplier performance and implement corrective actions to address quality issues in the supply chain.
Product Quality Control:
- Develop and implement product inspection and testing procedures.
- Analyze production data and implement corrective actions for deviations from quality benchmarks.
New Product Introductions and Engineering Changes:
- Support successful implementation of new products, driving Advanced Product Quality Planning practices.
- Develop processes and manufacturing documentation for new products.
- Review and update processes and documentation for existing products due to improvements or engineering changes.
- Generate and implement Engineering Change Notices to enhance product quality and reduce costs.
Industry Standards:
- Ensure site compliance with customer and industry standards (UL, CSA, etc.).
- Facilitate audits and inspections from regulatory and industry standard agencies.
Training and Development:
- Conduct training programs to educate employees on quality standards, processes, and tools.
- Foster a culture of quality consciousness and continuous improvement.
Continuous Improvement:
- Lead root cause analysis and problem-solving initiatives to address quality issues and prevent recurrence.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize processes and enhance product quality.
Team Leadership:
- Supervise and mentor a team of Quality professionals.
- Provide guidance, support, and training for a high-performing and cohesive team.
- Drive the company's vision, mission, values, and compliance with the Code of Business Conduct.
Performance Dimensions:
Measurable statistics that this position impacts such as production expenses, maintenance expenses, sales volumes, payroll costs, capital expenditures, research budgets, cost of purchases, value of inventories controlled, total revenues and expenses audited.
- External Quality - Customer Defects PPM, Customer Complaints, Customer Returns.
- Internal Quality - First Pass Yield (FPY), Rework.
- Cost of Poor Quality - Rework, scrap, and warranty claims. Premium freight.
- Supplier Quality - Supplier Defect PPM, Supplier On-Time Delivery.
- Compliance - Major/minor non-conformances. Observations.
- QMS - Assessment score. Audit Findings (internal/external) and Corrective Actions
- Continuous Improvement - Number of process improvement suggestions implemented and their impact on efficiency and cost savings. Cost out, cost avoidance.
- Corrective/Preventive Action: Time to Containment. Time to Resolve Quality Issues. Corrective Action Aging.
- Employee Training and Engagement: Training compliance (Quality Function and All Employees).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years experience in the manufacturing industry
- 5+ years Quality functional experience.
- 2+ year experience in management position.
- Familiarity with Quality Management System compliance (e.g. ISO 9001).
