Quality Inspector
Chandler, Arizona
Mission/Purpose:
The Quality Inspector is responsible for assisting and supporting the Quality Engineers by providing production expertise to resolve Quality issues within the production operation. Ensure that the product meets customer's requirements (both internal and external) at each stage of its manufacturing process, carrying out relevant testing and where necessary take corrective action to rectify non-conformance issues. Report quality issues data, ensuring the Quality Management System is adhered to at all stages.
Main Responsibilities:
- 80% of work may involve final assembly and in-process inspection
- Performing in-process inspections during assembly line processes
- Collaborating with the Cell Leaders to establish supportive documentation and inspection criteria for final product acceptability
- Verify that all components and labeling are present, correct and in good condition as per the work order (SOP)
- Verify that all special instructions pertaining to the products are carried out
- Review all appropriate labeling as per the work order (SOP)
- Assure that calibration is current and that the validation parameters are correct
- Investigate any apparent non-conformance promptly and notify shift personnel as necessary
- Complete documentation and place product on hold for further investigation when appropriate
- Perform final inspections and in-process finished goods audits
- Perform audits as directed
- Perform incoming inspection
- Perform special inspections under the direction of supervision or Quality Engineer
- Perform data entry and manipulations per defined procedures and protocols
- Assist in the training of personnel in the QA documentation requirements
- Read and understand shop fabrication drawings
- Read and understand specifications
- Carry out product tests and thorough independent final inspection of finished assemblies, kits, and ship-with packages to defined procedures, formally reporting all defects
- Responsible for checking, progressing and collating accurate build and inspection records
- Provide technical support in the areas of incoming parts inspections, pre-delivery inspection and test, and production line quality support activities
- Inspect and auditing of all components and all stages of the manufacturing process
- Investigate any internal quality issues to identify root cause and raise appropriate corrective action paperwork and ensure issues are addressed and resolved
- Ensure compliance and assist with adherence to the Quality Management system (ISO9001)
- Support regular inspection meetings with representatives from appropriate departments to establish an action plan for improving build quality
- Attend and report at regular improvement meetings, providing recommendations and technical support regarding preventative actions to external and internal quality related concerns
- Ensure all products flow through the inspection department or are suitably verified through existing realization processes (i.e. pick and pack activities in the warehouse)
- Ensure all incidents of non-conformance are recorded and reported to the appropriate Quality Engineer
- Maintain the calibration system, ensuring all equipment is correctly calibrated
- Assist as directed in the support of the internal audit program
- Complies with safety rules, regulations and OSHA requirements
- Maintains punctual, regular and predictable attendance; works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation
- Respectfully takes direction from Quality Manager and Quality Engineers; other duties as assigned
Scope:
- The employee is frequently required to walk, climb, or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- Employee must regularly lift and or move up to 50 pounds
- Noise level is usually moderate but occasionally loud
- Position requires an individual who is self-motivated, with "ownership thinking" perspective applied to decision making and an ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously without losing focus or attention
Skills, Knowledge, Experience:
Education level
- High school diploma or equivalent
Relevant Previous experience
- 1-2 years of visual inspection
- 1-2 years of dimension and tolerance reading in a drawing
- 2-3 years of experience using quality tools (measuring tape, micrometers, digital calipers)
Knowledge/Skills
- Strong understanding of the operations in which training will be provided
- Strong analysis, problem solving, process and troubleshooting skills
- Dynamic communication / inter-personal skills
- Highly organized and possess good decision-making skills
- Knowledge and recent experience in product inspection, process auditing, compiling/analyzing/reporting performance data, reading and understanding drawings/specifications/technical requirements, leading process improvement initiatives
- ASQ Certified Quality Technician (CQT) and/or Certified Quality Inspector (CQI)preferred, not required
- Self-directed, experienced leader with excellent communication skills.

- Oral and written English communication skills with the ability to professionally communicate with diverse populations
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
- Well organized with attention to detail
