INTRODUCTION
The GM Spring Hill Manufacturing site is a flexible Vehicle Assembly and Global Propulsion Systems plant that sits on 2,100 acres. 700 acres are dedicated to farming and 100 acres are dedicated to inhabiting wildlife, wetlands and native grasses.
We produce award winning SUVs including the Electric Cadillac Lyriq, Cadillac XT5, Cadillac XT6 and GMC Acadia. Our site houses a stamping facility, body shop, paint shop and a polymer injection molding operation.
The Role
Onsite: This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis. The GM Spring Hill Quality Engineering Team is looking for a talented and self-driven individual to fill the Quality Engineer role. Work is performed in a team environment where you will have daily interactions in a plant environment where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment. The Quality Engineer will apply their expertise in focused areas which may include Body, Exterior, Interior, Chassis, Electrical and Supplier Action Center (SAC) and will directly contribute to providing our customers with optimal satisfaction.
What You'll Do
Independent Judgement
Respond to daily project requests and prioritize work
Managing complex and ambiguous tasks with minimal input from supervisor
Manage emerging issues on owned commodities
Develop quality standards and procedures
Review nonconforming parts and sub-assemblies for proper initial disposition and root cause
Analyze data to make educated decisions
Successfully manage multiple projects with broad scope and varying degrees of difficulty
Critical Thinking
Lead root-cause analysis and develop and implement corrective action plans
Apply the Red X Methodology and other applicable tools
Present to Site Leaders with clear problem definition, technical guidance on complex problems, and regular updates on progress
Fix supplier quality and engineering issues impacting Global Customer Audit (GCA), Direct Run Rate (DRR), Warranty and Compass
Collaboration
Work with production floor, product engineering, supplier-Quality Engineering, or manufacturing engineering to resolve issues
Assist production in preventing defects and recommend process improvements
Collaborate with suppliers to address SPPS’s (Supplier Practical Problem Solving) issued and ensure robust corrective action
Support Launch of new products in the plant when applicable.
Support off-shift(s) and weekend production as required
Share Lessons Learned with Engineering to prevent repeat design or build issues
Coordinate periodic system and process audits at the plant and supplier facilities
Coordinate engineering change implementation and assist in running PTR’s (Production Trial Runs)
Support execution of all GMS (Global Manufacturing System) requirements
Visit supplier sites to ensure they are up to our standards or are putting in robust issue countermeasures
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities ( Required Qualifications)
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or equivalent
Ability to Read drawings, understand GD&T, and work with 3D Visualization Software
Understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Statistical Data Analysis
Strong critical thinking, independent judgement, and interpersonal skills
Effective communicator with solid oral and written presentation skills
What Can Give You A Competitive Edge ( Preferred Qualifications)
1+ Years industry experience
Ability to learn or familiarity with Plant Quality systems/applications including GSIP and GEPICS
Ability to learn or familiarity with Engineering & Supplier Quality systems/applications including ECM, PRTS, SPPS, GQTS, TeamCenter (3D Modeling) and Process Approval Documents (PADs)
Ability to learn or familiarity with Engineering Change Management including ECR’s, TCR’s and parts release processes
Previous experience as a Quality Engineer, Supplier Quality Engineer, Process Engineer, Design Engineer and/or Reliability Engineer
