SUMMARY:
The Quality Engineer is responsible for assuring that engineering and manufacturing processes are performed correctly using the right tools, materials and processes. Supports continuous improvement strategies. This position also develops inspection plans, tests products, creates, and dispositions DMRs, and communicates with suppliers. Prepares documentation of processes problems, working with the engineering staff to correct. Audits Quality Management System. Supports Quality team as necessary.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
• Drives continuous improvement strategies focusing on process improvements on the production floor
• Supports receiving inspection (receiving inspectors) with development of inspection plans, measuring parts dimensionally, testing products, creating and disposition of DMR's, communicating with supplier non-conformances, issuing/ closing supplier corrective actions, gage calibration and maintenance of the QA hold area to specified requirements
• Supports Quality Assurance Manager with supplier development activities to include supplier on-site audits
• Supports the implementation, continued use and maintenance of the D4 software system at MMUSA
• Assists with the implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of ISO 9001 QMS at all locations in MMUSA
• Performs internal auditing of the QMS
• Investigates/substantiates customer complaints to include feedback from those complaints into the QMS of corrective and preventive actions
• Facilitates Advanced Product Quality Planning techniques to accomplish organizational product quality levels, utilizing company metrics and visual aids or work instructions to heighten employee awareness on the production floor
• Interfaces with Engineering and Operations (Production) within a team environment to ensure transfer to Production of new products are in accordance with approved data and expected level of quality
• Supports the development, implementation and maintenance of quality in-process and final inspection activities
• Acts as deputy to Quality Assurance Manager in his/her absence
• Performs these and other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent, and 3 years' progressively more responsible experience in quality management and assurance.
OTHER SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
• Solid knowledge on various engineering disciplines, procedures and policies which results in business development is also required.
• ERP experience required
• Possess good project management and documentation skills
• Have solid engineering concepts and disciplines
• Strong attention to detail
• Must have strong decision-making skills
• Understanding of ISO 9000, 5S, and TQM
• Experience with lean manufacturing principles (Six Sigma)
• Excellent communicator both verbally and written. Able to communicate the "how to" and "why" of quality to employees in a way that is understandable and actionable

No direct supervisory responsibilities

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. The utmost professionalism is to be displayed in all communications, both verbal and written.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, margin and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must have well-developed systematic and structured critical thinking abilities to be able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Able to apply general rules to specific problems and produce an answer that makes sense (deductive reasoning). Able to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (inductive reasoning).
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Current valid driver's license. Must be able to travel, as required. American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) is preferred, but not required.
