The Fountainhead Group is looking for a Quality Engineer to join our FGI Family and support as a member of the Quality Team. Relocation Package Available!!
The Quality Engineer reports directly to the Quality Assurance Manager. In our manufacturing team, this individual plays a crucial role in ensuring high standards of product quality and compliance with industry regulations. Responsibilities include implementing and maintaining quality control procedures, conducting inspections and audits, analyzing production processes, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement, and to fix quality-related issues when they arise. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of quality management systems, statistical analysis, and problem-solving methodologies to enhance overall product quality and customer satisfaction.
Job responsibilities include creating quality assurance plans and documentation, devising qualification tests and defining acceptable test result criteria, while maintaining positive working relationships with production personnel, engineering leads, and vendors, with a focus on customer service.
Responsibilities
Creation of quality documentation, such as QAPs, and development of SOPs for FGI facilities and products in line with industry standards
Proactive review and improvement of systems and processes to ensure maintenance of standards
Maintaining accurate quality documentation, including:
Inspection reports and audit reports
Continuous improvement efforts
Customer complaint logs
Corrective action reports
Qualification test matrices
Working closely with manufacturing staff to ensure quality protocols are followed and documentation is correctly maintained and implement any new changes or adaptations based on quality review
Inspection and testing of various parts of manufacturing including products, components, processes, and comparing against predefined standards
Ensuring safety requirements are met at every point in the manufacturing facility
Analyzing problems reported and developing improvements to overcome them
Analyze and understand data produced by statistical process control (SPC)
Oversight and training of quality control team members in inspection methods and procedures.
Statistical analysis of manufacturing data and creation of formal and informal reports for senior staff members based on quality documentation
Working closely with external partners e.g. suppliers, customers, etc.
Continuous improvement to the manufacturing process.
Plan and control experiments and must understand sample size, measurements and terminology
Perform quality audits as required
The Position requires working with various stakeholders, at every part of the manufacturing process. Examples include working with:
Design teams – testing to identify product durability and areas of weakness
Suppliers – working to ensure raw materials and component parts meet the company’s quality standards
Manufacturing teams – ensuring that equipment and processes follow predetermined quality standards
Customers – analyzing issues reported via customer feedback, maintaining records and implementing changes to manufacturing when necessary
All other tasks as assigned by Quality Assurance Manager and/or VP New Product Development
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree preferred in the technologies or Quality Assurance preferred
At least 3 years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment, and experienced with quality systems.
Necessary Skill Set:
Analytical skills – need to be able to spot problems quickly and find the underlying causes so changes can be made
Critical thinking – once problems are identified, solutions and improvements must be found. This might involve thinking about a process, procedure or problem in a completely new way.
Attention to detail – as the people responsible for the creation and implementation of quality systems, as well as the people who notice and report on problems, every detail must be noticed and acted upon when necessary
Numerical skills – statistical analysis can be a big part of a Quality Engineering role
Communications skills – strong written and verbal communication skills are key. Must be able to relay potentially complex ideas to a wide range of audiences – both in personal consultations but also through company SOPs and quality documentation
Team work and collaboration – working as part of the quality team, and in close coordination with other teams throughout the manufacturing facility (as well as potential for interaction with suppliers and customers) is a key part of Quality Engineering
Technical capabilities – proficiency is required in the following:
Safe handling and disposal of chemicals
Operation of basic measuring tools (i.e. calipers, scales, etc.), including calibration and gauge R&R
Microsoft Excel (inspection form development, data entry, basic formulas and calculations)
Microsoft Word (authoring work instructions, procedures and test reports)
