Purpose
Accountable for the coordination of a manufacturing facility's quality assurance program, assisting in new product, process development and continuous improvement efforts. Guides the day-to-day activities of the Quality and Lab staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Be pro-active in identifying and performing tasks to maintain and improve safety, quality and environmental performance
- Ensure SOP's and JSA's exist and are updated for all quality tasks. Ensure required training for Quality Technicians is completed and documented according to policies
- Provide safety, quality, and environmental training for Quality Assurance Technicians
- Lead process and product tests/trials as assigned. Compile, analyze, and report trial test results as required
- Develop and maintain Quality Assurance SOP's with document control
- Support sales to resolve quality issues and product applications
- Define and implement procedures to support quality initiatives. Establish and maintain a comprehensive well-documented program that will ensure consistent product quality under certifying agency guidelines
- Ensure plant compliance with all internal product specifications, and corporate quality policies and provide follow up with operators and supervisors
- Work with sales to develop new products or modify existing products
- Manage quality systems to assure consistent process and product performance while maintaining maximum production and safe work habits
- Manage plant calibration and verification schedules for process and lab instruments.
- Lead and deploy process optimization (cost reduction, new technology, etc.), statistical analysis, continuous process improvement, and experimental design
- Supervise work activities for plant Lab and Quality Technicians
- Develop QA Techs through IPG's; meeting at least once a month with given feedback.
- Maintain product attributes with regulatory guidelines
- Manage quality records, databases, and controlled documents in accordance with corporate record retention policies
- Generate routine quality reports for internal communication
- Meet with plant employees on a regular basis to discuss quality issues and goals
- Assist in the plant quality self-assessment.
- Perform in a relief capacity for Technical Manager

Required Qualifications
- Associates' degree (or equivalent experience) in wood technology, business, manufacturing, production or related field
- Understands statistical analysis, sampling techniques and interpretation of manufacturing data
- Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to facilitate meetings and lead teams.
- Proficient knowledge of computer and supporting software including Minitab/JMP, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects to meet schedule and project requirements
- Thorough knowledge of mill process and equipment
- Understanding of effective and efficient production and manufacturing methods
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Budget and financial analysis aptitude
- Demonstrated problem solving skills
- Strong analytical and mathematical ability
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Wood Science, Wood Technology, Engineering, or related field
- Leadership role within a quality assurance department desirable
- Seven (7) years composite or engineered wood manufacturing experience
- ASQ certifications, Lean Six Sigma training, or other applicable training desirable
