Quality Assurance Specialist

Mat-Su Health Services is seeking a Quality Assurance Specialist to join our team!

Summary: Under the direct supervision of the CCO and in collaboration with the Director of Operations, Medical Director, and Director of Behavioral Health Services, the QA Specialist is responsible for QI/QA activities of the Agency, including development, documentation, and tracking of QI/QA measures and goals and for reporting to the program staff, leadership team and Board of Directors and granting agencies.

  • This position requires compliance with MSHS' compliance standards, including the Code of Conduct, Compliance Program, and policies and procedures. Such compliance will be an element considered as part of the regular performance evaluation
  • Collaborates with the Corporate Compliance Officer, Director of Operations, Medical Director, and Behavioral Health Director to develop annual QI/QA goals and measures.
  • Assists with the development of policies and procedures related to quality assurance.
  • Assists the primary care, dental, and behavioral health teams with quality improvement initiatives by applying the science of improvement through:
    • developing clear and measurable aims,
    • a measurement framework that supports reaching the aims,
    • identifying actions that are likely to result in improvement,
    • rapid testing (PDSA cycles) and learning from tests.
    • Documenting PDSA cycles
  • Provide weekly and monthly QI Data to the leadership team and Board.
  • Responsible for weekly productivity reports to providers to the leadership team and appropriate supervisors.
  • Through the CCO, provides annual grant reports to the Leadership, SQIC, and Board.
  • Maintains current knowledge and competence in EHR and other programs needed to run reports, process data, and complete documentation for QI/QA efforts.
  • Responsible for UDS grant monitoring and reporting in cooperation with the Finance Dept. Maintains UDS agency folder and gathers information annually on reporting.
  • Responsible for grant data monitoring and reporting.
  • Responsible for maintaining all grant documentation in the agency drive.
  • Assist the primary care team in developing quality care goals and measures at least annually
  • Assist the behavioral health team in developing quality indicator measures based on Certified Community Behavioral Health Center criteria.
  • Report monthly to the CCO, Medical Director, and CEO on clinical quality measures and progress toward goals for the clinic and individual providers. Works with providers to meet standards by reviewing workflow, mapping, and data entry.
  • Work with the Medical Director and Clinic Manager to provide training to Providers individually on Quality Care Measures and how to make potential improvements toward goals.
  • Participates in educational opportunities to increase knowledge of quality assurance, practical application, and required reporting programs, including but not limited to:
  • UDS training
  • PCMH training
  • Meaningful Use/CMS Reporting training
  • NextGen training
  • IHI online training
  • MACRA training
  • CCBHC quality indicator training
  • HRSA program standards
  • AZARA reporting
  • Healthy Alaska 2030

Knowledge/Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles of quality assurance and quality improvement or ability to learn.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and medical center operations or ability to learn.
  • Knowledgeable of grant reporting requirements and ability to learn reporting methods of grants specific to our programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse clinical and medical personnel.
  • Strong computer skillsparticularly using analytic and reporting software.
  • Ability to work within established timelines and deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively balance multiple projects with often competing demands.
  • Ability to engage and win the cooperation of diverse team members to accomplish performance improvement projects.

  • Work is performed primarily inside a heated, ventilated, and well-lighted environment.
  • Job is considered low-risk for hazard exposure.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • A four-year degree in health care or a relatable business field degree. Education & relevant work experience equivalent to 4 years may be considered. 4 years of relevant work experience may be substituted for education.
  • Prior working knowledge of primary care operations and/or behavioral health care, preferably in a FQHC and/or CBHC.
  • At least one year of relevant work experience in quality assurance, quality improvement, program management, or closely related activity.

General Requirements:

  • Clear background check (subject to DHSS background check)
  • Current driver's license; clean driving record history
  • Current tuberculosis screening test result.
  • First Aid, CPR, and CPI (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention) certifications must be obtained when offered through the agency; may substitute the current MANDT certificate for CPI.
