Overview
Job Summary
The Production Quality Control Inspector position is responsible for ensuring the food safety and quality of products and operations at the Natural Grocers Distribution Center. The Production QC Inspector will perform food safety inspections in production and sanitation. This position supports the development and implementation of food safety programs at the DC.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Production and Sanitation
  1. Conduct pre-operational inspections in room 1, room 2 and room 3.
  2. Conduct production product changeover inspections in room 1, room 2 and room 3
  3. Assist with housekeeping efforts in production, continuous production support in cleaning spills.
  4. Assist production with correcting quality non-conformances-relabeling, checking seals, examining finished goods.
  5. Conduct routine checks of production and sanitation records
  6. Monitor metal detection program in production
  7. On call for all metal detected in production to determine origin, report to supervisor
  8. Conduct monthly equipment calibration
  9. Report any incidents of non-compliance to managers. Place non-conforming product on HOLD
  10. Perform allergen and ATP swabs during scheduled sanitation cleans in all processing rooms
  11. Monitor Chemical Control Program
  12. Monitor Pest Control Program
  13. Test sanitizer strength daily
  14. Inspect equipment during and after allergen, complete, and organic cleans
  15. Provide updated forms for production and sanitation; monitor and file all completed forms
  16. Perform routine walk-through inspections for general housekeeping and GMP's
  17. Assist with training of new employees on GMP's and proper food handling
  18. Must be able to perform all duties required of QC Tech
  19. QC Tech Production will also be responsible for assisting with vacation relief in sanitation

Food Safety and Documentation
  1. Assist in maintaining food safety practices in production and warehousing
  2. Assist in implementing SOP's, SSOP's and Quality forms
  3. Assist in preparation for audits, including FDA and CDA inspections
  4. Report and track metal rejected products
  5. Monitor and document cooler temperatures daily
  6. Monitor sanitizer concentration daily
  7. Assist with pest control program-monitor pest traps and pest control representative, routinely treat drains, inspect traps, and report incidents to supervisor
  8. Conduct monthly quality audits of the facility with QA Manager and Supervisor
  9. Place product on HOLD when necessary, with QA Supervisor or QA Manager assistance.
  10. Assist in maintenance of chemical control program
  11. Any other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications
Qualifications and Experience:
• 2-year degree in applied science or minimum 2 years of experience in food production quality assurance required
• Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices in food production preferred
• Ability to read, write and speak English clearly and concisely is required
• Has good attention to detail; accuracy and thoroughness is a must
• Knowledge of food safety and HACCP programs recommended
• Strong written and verbal communication skills required
• Strong computer skills including MS Office
• Highly organized with ability to multi-task
• Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals
• Ability to give direction and assist with employee training, when required
• Must possess excellent attention to detail
• Able to meet all deadlines

Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to frequently lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to frequently push and pull up 50 lbs.
  • Requires the use of both arms and both hands with full range of motion.
  • Must be able to bend at the waist and knees, twist, push and pull on a frequent basis
  • Must be able to occasionally use computer for data entry and use of mouse.
  • Must be able to constantly stand for the duration of the 10-hour shift.
  • Must be able to frequently walk, use fine motor manipulations, grip, squat, kneel, bend, twist, and turn.
  • Must be able to occasionally crawl, climb, reach outward, and reach above chest.
  • Must be able to assemble small objects

Environmental Demands:
  • Must be able to constantly work with noise.
  • Must be able to frequently work with sharp tools and equipment, dust, and fumes.
  • Must be able to occasionally work in cold, heat, wet, humid, contact stress, chemicals, vibrations, and congested worksite.
  • Must be able to work around raw spices and allergenic foods
