Our Sales Consultants work with education specialists, school administrators, principals, schools, and school districts to identify their needs and provide curriculum solutions.
Position Summary:
Free Spirit Publishing, an imprint of Teacher Created Materials, is the leading publisher of learning tools that support young people’s social and emotional health and educational needs. We help children and teens think for themselves, succeed in life, and make a difference in the world.
This Publishing Internship is a partnership with We Need Diverse Books (WNDB) and interns are encouraged to apply for the WNDB grant. The position will introduce all aspects of acquiring and editing Free Spirit children’s books and expose the intern to a range of areas of publishing at Free Spirit and Teacher Created Materials, including production, design, marketing, and publicity.
Intern Responsibilities May Include:
- Read and evaluate submitted proposals
- Provide editorial reviews of author first and final drafts
- Participate in editorial, design, and marketing meetings
- Conduct research related to acquisitions and content development, including researching competitive products
- Fact-check manuscripts
- Collaborate on special projects
- Assist members of editorial staff and publicist as needed
Minimum Qualifications:
- College junior or senior enrolled in a B.A. program, or recent graduate with a B.A. in English, journalism, education, liberal arts, or related field
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interest in children’s books and interest in social emotional learning.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
Physical Requirements:
- Sit for extended periods of time; including at a computer.
- Repetitive hand and wrist movements for frequent use of computer keyboard and mouse.
Work Conditions:
- Home office environment.
