General Statement of Duties
- The City is seeking a collaborative and forward-facing candidate to serve as the next Public Works Director.
The successful candidate will be a strong member of the executive team, bringing knowledge of principles and practices of organization, administration, budgeting, and personnel management. The next Public Works Director will have experience with advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in their work at interpersonal, institutional, and systemic levels. The Department’s mission is to enhance the safety, welfare, and livability of the community. This is accomplished by providing and managing infrastructure and services for the airport, open spaces, parks, transportation, and stormwater and wastewater systems.Get to know Public Works
Qualified candidates possess any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be possession of eight (8) years of increasingly responsible Public Works experience in a municipal government or public agency in an administrative or managerial capacity involving responsibility for planning, organization, implementation, and supervision of varied engineering, maintenance, and/or other related programs; along with the equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering, planning, public or business administration, or a related field.
The salary range for the Public Works Director is $165,984.00 to $200,532.80 annually. The City of Eugene determines starting pay within the range based on relevant education and experience in order to comply with the Oregon Equal Pay Act. Salary and Benefits
The normal starting salary is the first step shown on the posting. Other placement in the salary range may be considered depending on qualifications and experience. Periodic advancement through the salary range is dependent upon merit.
