Job Description
Responsible for assisting in the overall security and safety of the campus including employees, students, and visitors and physical assets and properties during the Second Shift. Assists in risk management, loss prevention, and a campus free from criminal incidents.
- Monitors and maintains surveillance equipment and alarms, both fire and intrusion. Documents incidents and files reports.
- Identifies and reports safety and security issues to the Director of Public Safety. Recommends and implements solutions.
- Conducts campus and Ranken-owned property checks. Prepares buildings for normal school functions (locks/unlocks doors, turns on/off lights, etc.).
- Serves as primary contact for any medical emergency that may occur during the Second Shift.
- Supervises the Second Shift security officers in the performance of their duties ensuring proper shift coverage. Takes corrective action as needed.
- Serves as the first tier local law enforcement liaison during the Second Shift. Sends emergency text notifications as needed and keeps Director of Public Safety informed of any incident requiring police, fire, or EMS involvement.
- Ensures friendly customer service by the security staff to employees, students, and guests by providing directions and information. Coaches security officers on customer service techniques and appropriate methods of dealing with difficult people.
Requirements:
- Associate degree in law enforcement or related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Three to five years of experience in campus security preferred; military experience.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate and negotiate desired outcomes.
- Knowledge of effective management practices including training and motivating a team of three to four security officers.
- Ability to use sound judgment and decision making, especially in emergency or crisis situations. Ability to enforce policies for the safety and security of the campus. Effective skills in customer service, communication, attention to detail, and follow through. Proficient in computer use related to the position.
- Must be licensed to carry firearms and be able to pass an extensive background investigation.
- This position is scheduled for late afternoon and evening hours, 3 – 11 pm; some additional weekend hours will be required to participate in campus security functions.Willing to change shifts to accommodate shift coverage when emergencies arrive or when other officers are on vacation.
