Position Description
Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the Subscriber Services Technician Lead, this position will focus on the installation of trunked P25 Public Safety mobile radio communication equipment, mobile computing platforms, broadband modems, and associated cabling, wiring, and antenna systems. Employee will also be required to perform base level programing of P25 radios.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The position also involves minor system level troubleshooting and user configuration.
  • Customer-Service oriented, working directly with Public Safety professionals to diagnose and solve communications equipment problems in real time.
  • Uses standard hand and specialized tools to install equipment and performs tests for proper operation.
  • Frequently handles confidential radio system information.
  • Facilitates the radio and modem install process through to completion including but not limited to parts identification, scheduling, install, and work order documentation.
  • Essential physical demands for climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in confined spaces.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility and requirements of the position.

Requirements
Education:
  • High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required.

Experience:
  • Working knowledge of automotive electrical wiring.
  • Training and experience using personal computers with a variety of software tools including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and web-based tools

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting to the major sub-system level.
  • Ability to work with automotive electrical systems and wiring.
  • Ability to successfully interact with customers, even in trying situations.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).

Other Requirements:
  • Must pass FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Awareness Certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Must complete FEMA NIMS ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800 training within 1 year of hire.
  • Must have a valid Texas driver's license.
  • May be required to work more than forty hours during the workweek or on weekends special projects or Public Safety events/incidents.

Automatic Disqualification:

  • Convictions, probation, or deferred adjudication for a Class B Misdemeanor, if within the previous 10 years

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. and/or move boxes and equipment as needed.
  • Subject to kneeling, crouching, handling, climbing, walking, sitting, twisting, and reaching are needed to perform the essential functions.
  • Must have ability to work in close confined spaces.
  • Position requires use of ladders and working on top of Public Safety vehicles.

Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
