In this role the Public Relations Supervisor (Corporate Communications) will be responsible for developing and executing a corporate news and executive communications strategy for ALDI. This position is responsible for managing all external communications (proactive and reactive) related to corporate topics and will work with various internal departments and our agency partner to seek out storytelling opportunities. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker and problem solver, a strong communicator (both written and verbal) and a motivated self-starter who can work independently within sometimes ambiguous direction. The person in this role will be successful with a background in media relations, corporate and executive communications and have strong writing and leadership skills. The Public Relations Supervisor (Corporate Communications) is a critical role within ALDI and has regular exposure to ALDI leadership and executives. The objective of this role is to assist in maintaining a positive reputation for ALDI and drive awareness on business related initiatives.

Work Location: Aurora, IL
This role is eligible to participate in ALDI’s Hybrid Work Program, which allows remote work up to 3 days per week (i.e., work remotely up to 3 days per week; work in-office at least 2 days per week).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages review and approval process for all communication materials with agency partner, internal stakeholders, and ALDI management.
  • Leads development and execution of ALDI’s corporate news and executive communications strategy.
  • Maintains relationships with various internal departments including buying, corporate responsibility, e-commerce, real estate, among others, to seek out storytelling opportunities.
  • Takes an active role in brainstorms and supports the execution of detailed news plans for key ALDI
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining key messages and holding statement repository.
  • Serves as day-to-day corporate PR liaison between agency partner and ALDI team.
  • Escalates and responds to reactive information requests from media.
  • Monitors daily news coverage in national newsfeeds and analyzes competitor and grocery/retail industry news.
  • Reviews and approves Corporate Communications materials including press releases, media statements, key messages, executive talking points and more.
  • Provides planning and execution support as needed for media events and executive interviews.
  • Leads and executes business-to-business (B2B) and trade news strategy and objectives.
  • Collaborates with team members and communicates relevant information to leadership.
  • Upholds the security and confidentiality of documents and data within area of responsibility.
  • Establishes and communicates job responsibilities and performance expectations to their direct reports to assure mutual understanding and desired results.
  • Identifies training and development opportunities that will assist their direct reports in achieving enhanced performance.
  • Understands the overarching company strategy, as well as communicates and models the core values of the organization, to create a sense of teamwork and membership among employees.
  • Proposes changes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Public Relations processes, strategy, and tactics; communicates approved changes to direct reports.
  • Supervises the training of new employees and the ongoing development of the team.
  • Informs management of major team milestones, developments, and concerns.
  • Provides daily direction, assistance, and communication to internal teams, agencies, and vendors.
  • Leads and guides the work of direct reports ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Performs annual and goal reviews for direct reports.
  • Retains a motivated and professional team.
  • Supervises the day-to-day operations of their team, escalating issues to the appropriate level of support and/or leadership when necessary.
  • Assures direct reports complete assigned responsibilities in a timely and effective manner to provide the highest level of customer service for the business.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Journalism, Communications, or a related field required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, or a related field required.
  • Or, a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge.
  • 3+ years of Public Relations agency experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work may be performed in an office, remote office or a combination of both where a computer and office equipment may be used as needed to perform duties.
  • Regularly required to sit, reach, grasp, stand and move from one area to another.
  • Constantly and repeatedly use keyboard/mouse.
  • Occasionally required to push, pull, bend, lift and move up to 25 lbs.

Travel:

  • Minimal travel required as needed for job related duties such as training, project work and administrative tasks.
