Your Specific Responsibilities:
The incumbent oversees the pharmacy inspection program for the Investigative Services Unit, coordinating routine and complex medical quality assurance inspections and investigations relating to alleged violations of practice acts/rules under the jurisdiction of the Department. Work is performed under the supervision of the Field Office Manager through conferences and review of accomplishments concerning the achievement of the unit and division goals and objectives.

  • This position spends the majority of the time engaged in supervisory responsibilities. This includes communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees in addition to planning and directing employees' work. The incumbent has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. The incumbent will also be required to develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage, and complete timesheets.
  • Coordinates activities of staff to conduct new, change of location, and routine sterile compounding pharmacy inspections.
  • Provides guidance to staff regarding investigations related to sterile compounding pharmacies onsite inspections prior to approval for permitting new pharmacy establishments and change of location requests to determine compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
  • Manages the planning and coordination of operational activities for the non-sterile pharmacy inspections.
  • Resolves operational and policy issues, monitors compliance with rules, regulations, and operating procedures, and handles personnel aspects of staff supervision.
  • Consults and assists investigative staff in drug accountability audits. Provides technical assistance to MQA investigators in specialized cases involving drug-related investigations.
  • Assists the Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Drug Enforcement Administration with inspections as needed. Investigates violations discovered during the inspection process. Prepares investigative reports, audit reports and probation reports. Testifies at hearings, provides professional assistance to the legal staff, investigative staff, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Provides technical expertise in rule making and statutory review as requested. Reviews legislation, laws, and public policy and recommends changes to promote and support interests of general population, as well as special groups.
  • Meets with assigned personnel on a regular basis, at least weekly, to assess progress, provide guidance and solve problems.
  • Assists with budget as it relates to the sterile compounding pharmacy inspection program.
  • Conducts trainings and gives presentations regarding sterile compounding to assigned staff and licensees.
  • Creates, maintains, and conducts non-sterile pharmacy inspection training to investigative staff and assists with drug related investigations.
  • Provides support and advice to leadership in a professional manner. Assures program is staffed by the highest quality personnel available through recruiting, interviewing, and hiring personnel in accordance with the Department's policies, procedures, and goals.
  • Answers public inquiries, makes referrals, public speaking engagements, and develops professional contacts to further the goals and mission of the Department. Refers press inquiries to the Public Information Office.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficient computer skills to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; knowledge of computer data bases; knowledge and use of the compliance management system and licensing system used by the Agency; knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures and government rules & regulations; knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar; understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents; communicating effectively with others in writing; talking to others to effectively convey information; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; knowledge of the principles, practices, standards and terminology used in the practice of pharmacy; ability to develop and maintain a perpetual inventory control system; ability to evaluate pharmacy methods, procedures, and services; ability to plan, organize and prioritize work assignments; ability to work independently; knowing how to find information and identifying essential information; finding ways to structure or classify multiple pieces of information; inspecting and evaluating the quality of products; ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy and close attention to detail; ability to provide training; ability to maintain strict confidentiality; experience with compounding sterile products or directly overseeing the compounding of sterile products.
Qualifications:
  • Licensure as a pharmacist in accordance with Florida Statute 465 and one-year professional experience in the practice of pharmacy; AND
  • Five years professional experience in the practice of pharmacy; AND
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience; AND
  • Three (3) years of direct/indirect sterile compounding experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, satisfactorily complete a background investigation, fingerprinting, and participation in direct deposit are requirements for employment.
